This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.

We are looking for someone to apply their hardware design technical expertise, natural leadership, organizational skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact the bold missions at Blue Origin. As an Avionics PCB Design Automation Engineer within this advanced PCB design team, you will apply your knowledge of PCB development tools and automation processes to optimize our digital, analog, mixed-signal, high-speed, RF and high-power PCB layout designs for our avionics products.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Design and layout high-performance, high-reliability PCBs for aerospace applications
  • Develop and maintain board eCAD design libraries, including part footprints and related database information
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of mechanical, electrical and software product developers to configure and automate tool flows and processes
  • Configure and automate industry-leading software (Altium Enterprise Agile) to optimize PCB and library development leveraging AI where possible
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any PCB design and library development tool and process issues
  • Ensure design and manufacturing practices adhere to industry standards and regulations
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for PCB layout and design
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians on PCB design layout/library and Altium best practices
  • Contribute to PCB/PCBA design reviews by providing DFM/DFA/DFT and similar value-added info
  • Collaborate in defining PCB development process improvements (procedures and checklists)


Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related discipline
  • 7 or more years of experience in PCB development, with at least 5 years directly related to Altium tool configuration and process automation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of PCB best practices for design, manufacturing, assemble and testing
  • Familiarity with PCB assembly industry standards and regulations such as IPC-6012 Class 3
  • Strong understanding of digital, analog, mixed-signal, and high-speed layout, and design including impedance-controlled stack-up and multi-layer boards
  • Ability to create complex, detailed PCB layout designs including fine-pitch BGA routing (microvias, blind-buried vias, etc)
  • Ability to create and maintain symbol/footprint libraries including complex devices such as large pin-count connectors and BGAs
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Excellent communication skils, attention to detail and strong task ownership (someone who demonstrates pride in all work)
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Additional experience using other industry-leading software such as Cadence Allegro or Siemans Expedition (Mentor Graphics)
  • Experience configuring and automating PCB tools across enterprise computing environments such as AWS leveraging AI where possible
  • Experience configuring and automating PCB tools to work with ERP/PLM tools such as PTC Windchill and Mechanical CAD tools such as PTC Creo.
  • Experience using Python, DelphiScript and other software and APIs to automate and optimize PCB development with Altium leveraging AI where possible
  • Familiarity with tools that support PCB Design for Fabrication/Assembly such as Siemens Valor and Valor Parts Library


Base Pay Range for:
WA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70
