The Packaging Manager provides overall leadership, performance management, and continuous improvement for canning, bottling, kegging, and related packaging operations. The position ensures products are packaged safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards while meeting production schedules and cost objectives.
This role leads Packaging Supervisors, Operators, and support personnel and works closely with Brewing, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and Warehouse teams to optimize production flow and operational performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Operational Leadership
• Direct packaging operations across production lines and shifts.
• Develop and execute packaging schedules aligned with production requirements.
• Optimize labor, equipment, materials, and production resources.
• Monitor line performance, schedule adherence, downtime, waste, and throughput.
• Ensure accurate shift reporting, production records, and handoff communication.
Team Leadership and Development
• Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop Packaging Supervisors and Operators.
• Set clear expectations and provide regular performance feedback and development planning.
• Support onboarding, technical training, cross-training, and succession planning.
• Foster accountability, teamwork, engagement, and continuous improvement.
• Participate in hiring, promotion, corrective action, and other employment decisions.
Safety, Quality, and Compliance
• Champion a safety-first culture and reinforce PPE and safe work practices.
• Ensure compliance with company safety programs, OSHA requirements, GMP, sanitation, HACCP, and food safety standards.
• Partner with Quality Assurance to maintain product and packaging quality.
• Investigate incidents and deviations and implement appropriate corrective actions.
• Maintain and improve SOPs, sanitation routines, and operational controls.
Equipment, Maintenance, and Materials
• Partner with Maintenance to maximize reliability, uptime, and preventative maintenance completion.
• Support troubleshooting, operator-based maintenance, equipment upgrades, and capital projects.
• Ensure packaging materials are available for scheduled production.
• Maintain accurate material usage, inventory, and reconciliation records.
• Coordinate with Supply Chain and Warehouse teams to support production needs.
Continuous Improvement
• Use production data and KPIs to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities.
• Lead initiatives that improve safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and waste performance.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing and root-cause problem-solving practices.
• Standardize best practices across packaging lines and shifts.
