Senior Outside Sales Representative - Mining & Power GenerationLocation: Phoenix, AZ preferred
Territory: Northeastern Arizona, Four Corners Region, portions of New Mexico, and Phoenix-area accounts
Department: Sales
Position OverviewPhoenix Pumps is seeking an experienced Senior Outside Sales Representative to manage and grow a key industrial territory throughout Arizona and New Mexico, with a primary focus on customers within the mining and power generation industries.
This is a senior-level territory management role for an established sales professional who understands how to independently manage a geographic territory, develop long-term customer relationships, protect existing business, identify growth opportunities, and execute a disciplined sales strategy.
The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of successful outside sales experience and significant experience selling into mining and/or power generation accounts. Direct pump or rotating equipment sales experience is beneficial but is not required. Industry knowledge, customer relationships, territory management skills, and the ability to navigate complex industrial accounts are more important.
This position will be primarily field-based, with travel throughout the assigned territory and onsite customer visits as business needs require. Candidates located in the Phoenix metropolitan area are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities- Own and manage a defined sales territory covering Northeastern Arizona, the Four Corners region, portions of New Mexico, and established Phoenix-area accounts.
- Develop, maintain, and expand relationships with customers in the mining, power generation, utility, and heavy industrial markets.
- Retain and grow an existing book of business while identifying and developing new revenue opportunities throughout the territory.
- Conduct regular onsite customer visits, plant visits, mine-site visits, and face-to-face meetings with key decision-makers.
- Build relationships with plant management, maintenance and reliability teams, engineers, purchasing professionals, operations leaders, and other key stakeholders.
- Develop and execute a strategic territory plan focused on sustainable revenue growth and increased market share.
- Identify customer needs and coordinate with internal technical, applications, replacement, and project teams to develop appropriate solutions.
- Maintain strong knowledge of customer operations, competitive activity, market conditions, capital projects, shutdowns, expansions, and other opportunities within the territory.
- Build a healthy sales pipeline and manage opportunities through the full sales cycle.
- Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, and sales activity information within the company CRM.
- Partner with internal teams to support customer needs, resolve issues, and strengthen long-term account relationships.
- Represent Phoenix Pumps at customer meetings, industry events, mine sites, power facilities, training sessions, and other business-related functions.
- Deliver territory growth in alignment with company sales objectives, including an anticipated 10% growth target.
Required Qualifications- 10+ years of outside sales, territory management, or business development experience within industrial markets.
- Demonstrated professional experience selling into the mining and/or power generation industry.
- Strong understanding of how mining, power generation, or similar heavy industrial facilities operate and purchase equipment, products, and services.
- Experience independently managing an assigned geographic territory, including developing account strategies, prioritizing opportunities, and building a consistent sales pipeline.
- Proven ability to maintain existing customer relationships while developing new business within a territory.
- Experience calling on multiple levels within industrial organizations, including operations, maintenance, engineering, reliability, purchasing, and plant leadership.
- Current MSHA training/credentials appropriate for accessing active mine sites.
- Ability and willingness to regularly travel throughout Northeastern Arizona, the Four Corners region, New Mexico, and the greater Phoenix market.
- Strong consultative selling, relationship-building, negotiation, and account-management skills.
- Ability to operate independently in a field-based sales environment and effectively manage a large geographic territory.
- Strong organizational skills and experience using CRM systems to manage customer relationships, opportunities, and sales activity.
- High school diploma or GED required.
Preferred Qualifications- Established relationships or an existing professional network within the Arizona/New Mexico mining or power generation markets.
- Experience working with crushing, conveying, material-handling, pumping, or other equipment used within mining and heavy industrial operations.
- Experience selling mechanical equipment, engineered products, systems, aftermarket services, or other technical solutions to industrial end users.
- Familiarity with pumps, pumping systems, rotating equipment, or fluid-handling applications.
- Previous experience supporting major mine sites, utilities, or power-generation facilities throughout Arizona and New Mexico.
- Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, marketing, or a related field.
What Success Looks LikeThe successful candidate will quickly establish ownership of the territory, strengthen relationships with existing customers, identify areas where Phoenix Pumps can expand its presence, and build a clear strategy for long-term growth.
Success in this role is primarily measured through territory growth and revenue performance, rather than activity-based metrics. The expectation is that this individual understands how to run a territory, build the right relationships, identify meaningful opportunities, and consistently convert those opportunities into profitable business.
Work Environment & TravelThis is a field-focused sales position with flexibility to work remotely when not visiting customers or conducting business onsite.
Regular travel throughout the assigned territory is required, including frequent driving and customer visits throughout Arizona and New Mexico. The representative will also visit mine sites, power-generation facilities, industrial plants, and Phoenix-area customer locations as needed.
