This position coordinates the efforts of all Perioperative Departments in the use of the Horizon Surgical Manager system. These activities include master file maintenance, training of end-users, troubleshooting and programming of custom reports. The departments include: OR, PACU, Anesthesia, Ambulatory Surgery, Ambulatory Diagnostics Unit, Sterile supply. This position also coordinates the efforts of all outpatient departments who rely on the Pathways Healthcare Scheduling system for their daily scheduling and efficient processing of patients through The Alliance. The activities on this system are similar to those performed on Horizon Surgical Manager but require knowledge of clinical protocols outside of the Perioperative area. The departments involved include the Heart Institute, Pulmonary Function, Radiology, Outpatient Oncology, and Rehab Services. In addition to the technical computer skills and clinical expertise required, the position must also handle the human element of coordinating schedulers in the Perioperative and outpatient areas in a cost effective manner, while maintaining positive patient satisfaction. The position is responsible for direct supervision of two (2) Perioperative Services area and is a lead worker for all schedulers in the five (5) outpatient departments listed above. Another key aspect of this position is coordinating the interaction with Materials Management for surgical supply inventory and with the Clinical information systems and Patient Financial Services Departments for patient charging. The integration of computer systems is quite elaborate and highly technical, which requires someone who knows both the clinical and financial implications and can translate this to efficient computer processing. Extensive knowledge of Local Medical Review Policies required for Medicare reimbursement is another aspect of this position. Compliance Advisor System integration to the scheduling system automatically invokes medical necessity checking at time of scheduling.
