Full Job Description
Mechanical Integration Engineer
DESE's engineering teams support the design, development, and integration of complex systems that are critical to our nation's defense. We're seeking a motivated Mechanical Integration Engineer who thrives in collaborative environments, takes ownership of technical challenges, and enjoys bringing together diverse teams to deliver successful system integration solutions.
This role is ideal for an engineer who combines a strong mechanical engineering foundation with exceptional communication, organization, and leadership skills. You'll serve as a key technical focal point, coordinating across engineering disciplines, industry partners, and government stakeholders to drive integration activities from planning through execution.
Core Responsibilities:
• Serve as a primary mechanical engineering focal point, coordinating technical activities across cross-functional teams, industry contractors, and government stakeholders.
• Lead and facilitate technical meetings, establishing clear agendas, objectives, action items, and follow-up activities to ensure progress and accountability.
• Independently manage assigned tasks, priorities, and schedules while maintaining effective communication with engineering teams and program leadership.
• Drive mechanical integration activities from initial planning through execution, verification, and closure.
• Translate engineering concepts and requirements into detailed mechanical designs, 3D CAD models, and technical drawings.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define, evaluate, and validate mechanical interfaces throughout the system development lifecycle.
• Support design verification activities through engineering calculations, prototyping, testing, and simulation as appropriate.
• Communicate technical challenges, integration risks, and recommended solutions clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience supporting mechanical engineering design, development, integration, or system-level engineering activities.
• Demonstrated ability to organize technical work, manage priorities, and coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
• Experience participating in or facilitating technical discussions, design reviews, or cross-functional meetings.
• Ability to independently identify challenges, communicate action items, and follow through to resolution.
• Working knowledge of mechanical design principles, engineering drawings, and 3D CAD modeling.
Highlighted Skills & Experience:
• Technical Leadership: Experience serving as a technical focal point, coordinating stakeholders, facilitating engineering discussions, and driving action items to completion.
• Cross-Functional Integration: Ability to collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, systems engineering, and program management teams.
• Mechanical Design: Experience developing 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, prototypes, and production-ready mechanical designs.
• Interface Management: Experience defining physical interfaces, interpreting system requirements, and supporting interface verification and validation.
• Design Verification: Familiarity with engineering calculations, prototyping, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), or related simulation tools.
• Systems Development: Understanding of engineering development processes from early design through production, testing, and system integration.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Experience communicating technical information and coordinating integration activities with industry contractors and government organizations.
• Defense Experience: Familiarity with missile defense systems, Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD), or similar aerospace and defense programs is preferred.
Why This Role Matters:
You'll play an important role in bringing complex defense systems together, ensuring that critical mechanical interfaces, engineering teams, and integration activities remain aligned. Your ability to communicate, collaborate, and lead technical efforts will directly contribute to the successful delivery of mission-critical capabilities that support national defense.
