Core Standard Components Team OverviewCore Standard Components are foundational components that are shared between two or more product groups, such as valves, seals, fasteners, and flanges. The Core Standard Components team is responsible for maintaining this suite of foundational technologies to ensure reliable and repeatable performance across product lines. Some of these foundational components are internal designs, while others are 3rd party products. Our primary scopes are valves and seals, which we design, test, and maintain, but we are also responsible for maintaining the suite of fasteners, chokes, flanges, and other core building block components. We lead the development and onboarding of these technologies and support their implementation on customer projects. We are also responsible for driving standardization of these core technologies.
Roles and Responsibilities:The Core Standard Components Engineer performs a variety of engineering work in the development of products and the execution of subsea projects in accordance with industry standards and client requirements. This may include preparing technical documentation for customers, performing engineering calculations to analyze operating parameters and, at times, leading a team of mechanical engineers within a project. Key responsibilities include:
- Accountability for the engineering execution of technical projects that meet internal and client requirements while managing project deliverables, engineering budgets, schedules, and internal or external customer interfaces.
- Ensuring all aspects of product comply with client technical specifications and relevant industry standards.
- Leading the design of new core standard components, including concept development, engineering calculations, drafting oversight, and qualification test fixture design
- Leading the maintenance of existing core standard components, including the simplification of designs, standardization of components, improvements for manufacturability, and reduction in total lifecycle cost.
- Responsibility for the qualification (prototype) testing of core standard components to meet customer/internal/industry requirements as required.
- Leading design reviews for core standard components
- Writing technical documentation, including:
- Test procedures, assembly procedures, engineering test reports, design calculation reports, FEA reports
- Liaising with key stakeholders, including internal and external customers
- Providing technical support to supply chain, manufacturing, quality, project management, and other product groups
- Providing product support to field personnel and customers
- Ensuring all work is undertaken in a safe manner in line with company health and safety guidelines.
- May include indirect accountability for supervising, training, developing, motivating and guiding subordinate personnel to achieve project objectives. Guides and coordinates efforts of drafters and technologists.
Minimum Qualifications:- 7 or more years of experience in mechanical engineering
- Master's degree or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- Thorough understanding of machining, manufacturing, and hydraulic drawings
- Thorough understanding of classical stress calculations
- Understanding of API 6A and API 17D
- Experience with valves, seals, fasteners, small bore tubing, or chokes
- Strong organization skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Candidates must be able to legally work in the US
Preferred Qualifications:- Knowledge of SAP, MathCad, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, FEA (Ansys or Abaqus)
- Knowledge of subsea production system design codes and related specifications (including IOGP S-561, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, NORSOK, etc)
- Knowledge of subsea production systems (including subsea trees, manifolds, jumpers, wellheads, and controls)
- Familiar with 8D problem-solving, fishbone diagrams, or similar root cause investigation tools
- Experience in performing product qualification tests
