The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.

As part of a unique, rapidly evolving team, you will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop, implement, maintain, and support the enterprise-wideElectrostatic Discharge (ESD) Control Program for flight hardware in accordance with Blue Origin’s strict aerospace specifications. You will work hands-on with systems, manufacturing, and design engineers, as well as technicians in the manufacturing area, to protect critical flight electronics and launch vehicle payloads. We seek people who are passionate about space, possess a strong desire to deliver results, and continuously learn and improve.

We are looking for an experienced individual to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities
  • Own, iterate, and maintain Blue Origin's enterprise-wide ESD Control Program in accordance with ANSI/ESD S20.20, MIL-STD-1686, and applicable NASA/defense workmanship standards (e.g., NASA-STD-8739.6).

  • Conduct routine and ad-hoc audits, assessments, and certifications of ESD Protected Areas (EPAs) across avionics laboratories, cleanrooms, spacecraft integration facilities, and testing environments.

  • Author, update, and manage company-wide ESD specifications, corporate standards, process instructions, and work travelers.

  • Specify, qualify, and perform performance verification of ESD mitigation hardware, packaging materials, static-control apparel, and equipment (such as ionizers, constant monitors, floor finishes, and ESD-safe tooling).

  • Lead investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions related to flight hardware or tooling damaged or threatened by ESD events.

  • Develop, deliver, and continuously optimize ESD training and certification programs for manufacturing personnel, quality inspectors, and engineers.

  • Provide technical support during engineering design reviews to ensure electronic hardware, tooling, and test equipment are designed with robust ESD protections.

  • Characterize ESD-sensitive components (Class 0 and ultra-sensitive devices) and define special handling and packaging requirements.

  • Manage calibrations and performance verification of ESD test instrumentation (e.g., resistance meters, static field meters, charge plate monitors).

  • Serve as the primary technical interface representing Blue Origin's ESD program during customer, compliance, and third-party quality audits.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area in alignment with 5S standards.

Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a relevant technical engineering field.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experienceimplementing, managing, or auditing ESD control programs within aerospace, defense, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing environments.

  • In-depth knowledge and practical application of ESD Association (ESDA) standards, specifically ANSI/ESD S20.20, ESD TR53, and MIL-STD-1686.

  • Proven technical leadership experience, with the ability to influence cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams without direct authority.

  • Expertise in the testing and selection of dissipative, conductive, and shielding materials, as well as environmental factors (relative humidity control).

  • Strong technical writing skills with demonstrated capability to author corporate-level standards, test reports, and manufacturing work instructions.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring block diagrams.

  • Self-motivated and proactive, with a demonstrated ability to drive facility-wide program improvements with little to no guidance.
