Position Summary

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer II - Mechanical
Job Code: 208602

Job Location: Irvine, CA

The Manufacturing Engineer II position identifies, develops and implements continuous improvement in manufacturing processes in the department thru the use of lean techniques. Able to review technical drawings and suggest improvements to reduce cost, rework or scrap. This individual should be familiar with statistics and process control.

The Manufacturing Engineer II proactively:
  • Utilizes continuous improvement of manufacturing and business processes through the application of lean techniques: Value Stream Mapping, 5S, work cells, pull systems, error-proofing and visual management.
  • Analyzes and plans space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Collaborates with design engineers concerning product design (DFM) and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Designs tooling and fixturing using SolidWorks.
  • Works with suppliers to determine product specifications, evaluate processes and capabilities and train on lean techniques.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Documents general manufacturing procedures and part-specific work instructions.
  • Responsible for BOM coding (make or buy decisions and assign commodity codes).
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • May be assigned to assist other departments.
  • May require interaction with Customers and Suppliers.
  • May be required to travel up to 20%
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BSc) in Manufacturing, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering,
  • Must be able to obtain or have a current DoD Security Clearance.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years' of related experience and/or training.
  • Must have 1-3 years' experience applying lean techniques.
  • Expected to be subject matter expert in one or more of the following discplines:
    • Hydraulics
    • Refrigeration Systems
    • Control Systems
    • Machining/Fabrication Processes
  • Will be called upon to train others.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
  • Position involves sitting, standing and/or walking. Position requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move/lift objects and occasionally exert up to 40 pounds of force to move/lift objects.
  • May involve some lifting. Involves sitting at desk and reading computer screen. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, reach or walk. This position requires that the employee be able to hear and speak clearly.
