Full Job Description
Overview

This position will provide direct support to assembly operations while also contributing to component-level fabrication. You will work hand-in-hand with design engineers and other cross-functional engineers, program leadership, and the production team to bring concepts to fruition in a very rapid pace and dynamic environment. We operate in a high-mix/low-volume model and field products so rapidly that change and growth are constant. Furthermore, manufacturing engineers will find themselves involved in some projects for which we are the prime design-authority and other projects in which we are a sub-contracted organization. This mix brings a lot of variety to the scope of responsibilities for our manufacturing engineers and our Manufacturing Engineers, referred to internally as Production Support Engineers (PSEs), may be assigned to a projects lasting anywhere from six months to a few years before being re-assigned to new projects. Work environments will be a balance between office and production floor. Travel may occur on occasion (to customer or supplier sites) but are typically T
Responsibilities

The Manufacturing Engineer, often referred to as Production Support Engineers (PSEs) within V2X, is responsible for determining production operations required to bring a product to fruition and supporting ongoing process improvement (Continuous Improvement) thereafter. With this in mind, Manufacturing Engineers must understand Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA), and be able to infer the design intent from engineering drawings in order to provide the best support to both design engineers and the production team.

Standard work for Manufacturing Engineers will include developing technical work instructions and provide hands-on trouble-shooting with the production team. Activities will range from entering production routings and Bills of Material (BOMs) in an SAP ERP and developing supplemental visual instructions. Manufacturing Engineers may also support the development of Process Failure Modes & Effects Analyses (PFMEAs) and Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs). You will also design fixturing, jigs, and tooling. The PSE will also process deviations and disposition nonconforming material, analyze processes to determine Root Causes and Corrective Actions, support other Continuous Improvement (CI) activities.

Qualifications

Required Skills:
  • 5-8 years of experience as an engineer in general industrial assembly manufacturing
  • 3-5+ Years in industrial machining operations or metal fabrication operations (including forming and welding operations)
  • Experience in technical writing and development of detailed work instructions for assembly and rework operations.
  • Experience using ERP platforms to generate production routings (SAP S/4HANA preferred)
  • Experience using 3D CAD programs (PTC Creo preferred) to create production drawings from model.
  • Fundamental familiarity with national industrial standards pertaining to engineering, materials, and industrial fabrication and assembly operations. Standards should include ASME, ASTM, SAE, and ISO standards-with special emphasis on ASME Y14-series standards (including Y14.5 GD&T) and experience reading and interpreting assembly drawings.
