Full Job Description
Position description

We are looking for a Manager, Customer Solutions Engineering to lead and build Sonar's Austin CSE hub. This is a founding leadership role: you will hire, develop, and inspire a team of Customer Solutions Engineers (CSEs), establish the operating culture and execution rhythm of the hub, and ensure the Austin CSE team delivers outstanding technical outcomes for Sonar's Mid-Market and Enterprise customers. You will work closely with Field Engineering leadership and cross-functional partners across Sales, Product, and Support to set the standard for how Sonar earns its customers' love - at scale.

What You'll do:

  • Build and lead the Austin CSE Hub: Recruit, onboard, and develop a high-performing team of Customer Solutions Engineers. Set the culture, operating norms, and execution standards for the hub from day one, creating an environment where people grow fast and customers feel it.
  • Drive customer outcomes at scale: Own the technical health, product adoption, and value realization metrics across the hub's customer portfolio - spanning Mid-Market and Enterprise accounts - ensuring retention and expansion goals are met.
  • Coach and develop your team: Conduct regular 1:1s, career development conversations, and performance reviews. Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence in CI/CD, Agentic SLDC practices, and Sonar platform expertise.
  • Establish hub operations: Define workflows, escalation paths, and collaboration rhythms that connect the team seamlessly with global counterparts in Austin, Bochum, Geneva, London, and beyond.
  • Partner cross-functionally: Serve as the voice of the hub in strategic planning, product feedback loops, and go-to-market initiatives. Work closely with Sales, Product, and Support leadership to align on priorities and resolve systemic customer challenges.
  • Represent Sonar's technical leadership externally: Engage with key customers and executives as an escalation point, trusted advisor, and advocate - reinforcing Sonar's value proposition at the highest levels.
  • Shape the team charter: Define the roles, hiring plan, and team structure needed to scale the hub in alignment with Sonar's growth trajectory.

Experience and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will:
  • Bring 8+ years of experience in Solutions Engineering, Customer Success Engineering, Technical Account Management, or similar customer-facing technical roles, with at least 3 years in a people management or team lead capacity.
  • Have a proven track record of building and scaling high-performing technical teams, ideally in a hub, greenfield office, or startup environment.
  • Demonstrate deep technical fluency in modern software development practices - CI/CD pipelines, code quality, DevSecOps, and Agentic/AI-assisted SLDC - sufficient to coach CSEs and engage credibly with enterprise engineering leaders.
  • Possess exceptional leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to motivate diverse teams, develop individual career paths, and hold a high bar for execution.
  • Have strong business acumen and customer empathy, with experience managing complex Enterprise and Mid-Market customer portfolios and navigating executive stakeholder relationships.
  • Be fluent in English; proficiency in Spanish or other European languages is a plus.
  • Be based in, or willing to relocate to, Austin.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and embody Sonar's CODE values: Committed, Obsessed with quality, Deliberate, and Effective.

In-office culture

We're intentional about this. We believe the best teams are built in the room together. Three anchor days - Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays - create the collaboration rhythm that makes a hub office worth having.

Candidates need to be genuinely based in the location the role is posted - if that's not where you are today, we're happy to support relocation for the right person.
