DescriptionPosition Overview
The Manager, Corporate Accounting & Risk will lead the preparation, analysis, and presentation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders and play a key role in building out BSI's financial risk review process. On the reporting side, this individual will ensure compliance with accounting standards, drive financial reporting produced for external parties, including monthly and quarterly GAAP financials and MBFRF filings, maintain the general ledger structure, prepare compliance reporting for external entities, and assist in the tax process along with the external tax provider. On the risk side, the role will help design and execute a recurring assessment of the company's key financial risks, including liquidity, loan repurchase exposure, loans held on the balance sheet, accounts receivable, and hedging and interest rate risk, and will communicate findings and recommendations to senior leadership. The role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, sound analytical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial information to both financial and non-financial audiences.
Key Responsibilities:Financial Reporting & Compliance:
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of internal management reports and external financial disclosures, including MBFRF filings.
- Prepare accounting input for compliance reporting to external entities, such as investors, agencies, state regulators, and warehouse lenders, including net worth, liquidity, and covenant reporting.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and support audits (internal and external).
- Assist in the tax process along with the external tax provider.
- Perform accounting research and prepare technical memos, documentation, and accounting policies.
General Ledger & Systems
- Oversee and maintain the general ledger system hierarchy, chart of accounts, and account rollup structure.
- Maintain the financial entity org structure within Microsoft GP.
- Help manage the upcoming GP upgrade or system conversion.
- Partner with IT, operations, and business units to streamline reporting systems and data.
Financial Risk Review
- Help design, build, and document the company's financial risk review process, including the risk framework, key risk indicators, thresholds, escalation criteria, and reporting cadence.
- Liquidity risk: Monitor cash position, liquidity forecasts, and available funding capacity; track compliance with agency, investor, state, and lender liquidity, net worth, and covenant requirements; support liquidity stress testing.
- Capital Markets Risk: Track repurchase and indemnification requests, quantify exposure and trends. Assist in assessing risk in the company's MSR portfolio and related excess spread agreements.
- Hedging & interest rate risk: Support analysis of interest rate exposure and hedging activity, including derivative valuations, reconciliation with third-party hedge providers, and sensitivity of earnings and the balance sheet to rate movements.
- Loans held on the balance sheet: Analyze the composition, aging, delinquency, and credit quality of loans held; support valuation and loss reserve assessments.
- AR management: Monitor the aging and collectability of receivables, including servicing advances and client and investor receivables.
Prepare periodic risk reports and dashboards for senior leadership, identify emerging risks, and recommend mitigation actions. - Coordinate with treasury, capital markets, servicing, operations, and compliance teams to gather data and validate risk metrics.
Qualifications:Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA designation required.
- Master's degree in Accounting or Finance a plus.
- Risk-related credentials (e.g., FRM, CFA) a plus.
Experience
- 5-8 years of progressive accounting, financial reporting, and/or financial risk experience.
- Prior experience in financial services, mortgage banking, or mortgage servicing industry strongly preferred.
- Experience with GAAP, financial reporting systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Exposure to liquidity management, interest rate risk and hedging, loan re
purchase, or credit risk analysis strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with agency (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae) and state regulatory financial requirements a plus.
General knowledge of corporate federal and state tax is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical accounting and financial analysis skills.
- Analytical, risk-minded approach, with the ability to build models, forecasts, and stress scenarios.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with ERP/accounting software; working knowledge of SQL desired.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including presenting risk findings to senior leadership.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and build new processes from the ground up.
