The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Manager, Business Finance, to join our IT Planning & Business Partnership team in Toronto, ON/St. John's NL.

This is a permanent, hybrid position, serving as a key bridge between Finance and Information Technology, supporting stakeholders across Canada, Brazil, Europe, and APAC.

About You

As a Manager, Business Finance- IT Planning & Business Partnership you will serve as the crucial link between the IT function, and the business finance teams-based Brazil, Canada, Europe and APAC regions. This role requires a strong end to end understanding of finance processes and expertise in business process improvement.
  • This role is ideal for a tech or consulting professional with solid finance background in mining & metals or other heavy industries who enjoys working at the intersection of IT, digital technologies, data, analytics, AI and Finance. It is a role focused on supporting our finance functions globally.
  • The successful candidate brings strong understanding of finance processes end to end (record to report, procure to pay, FP&A, treasury, cash management, etc.), is naturally connected with technology best practices and can solve business problems with digital technology solutions. This role partners closely with IT solutions architecture, procurement and delivery, focusing on understanding business pain points, prioritizing demand, and ensuring technology investments do deliver measurable value.
  • A business-oriented mindset is essential, challenging assumptions, simplifying workflows, and ensuring the right problems are solved before selecting digital technology solutions. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are critical, as the role works across functions and geographies.
  • Collaboratively with Finance function, you will proactively build a multi-year IT and data strategy and an associated roadmap that fits the needs of this business area. Your financial deep experience and deep understanding of tech, will allow you manage the demand intake, identify, and prioritize IT solutions, work with the business to develop business cases for investments in technology.


Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Build and maintain deep relationships and knowledge of the business, being embedded in the business to have a profound understanding of the business's strategy, roadmap, and pressing challenges, being able to influence leadership level
  • Shape and manage demand intake by working with the business to develop business cases and identifying the products and services that support the business areas, considering budget and resource constraints
  • Lead the IT governance forum for Finance, hosting a recurring routine in collaboration with Finance leadership to review and prioritize IT initiatives.
  • Understanding of how data and AI drive innovation in finance areas and developing an IT and Data Strategy and Roadmap for VBM Finance
  • Collaborate with other IT BPs to ensure that other business areas roadmaps integrate well with the Finance roadmap.
  • Oversee the delivery of IT for Finance, acting as the key interface point to ensure alignment and integration with the VBM IT execution team.
  • Proven experience leading demand management, investment prioritization, and governance routines
  • Proactively propose solutions to the business avoiding software and other digital technologies sprawl that increases complexity, cost and risk with no clear business value
  • Hold IT accountable for delivery against agreed service levels, timelines, outcomes and ensure IT initiatives receive the right level of support and sponsorship from the business


Experience & Education
  • 10+ years of end-to-end Finance process experience
  • 5+ years in Minning & Metals industry or similar heavy industry sectors (Oil & gas, Chemicals, manufacturing, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with IT, AI & Analytics delivery teams to ensure technical solutions selection and successful project implementation at scale
  • Experience developing and executing multi-year technology or digital roadmaps and business cases building.
  • Proven capability in building relationships and influencing at leadership level, budget management, governance, and value realization
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • MBA, CMA, or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, or Economics preferred


Skills:
  • Experience delivering IT, Tech, Data, Analytics and AI solutions with good understanding of how digital technologies are enabling productivity and innovation in scientific and engineering areas.
  • Ability to challenge conventional thinking and usage of digital technologies and strategic mindset with the ability to translate business priorities into clear IT, digital, data and analytics initiatives
  • Influencing & Stakeholder Engagement with demonstrated ability to gain support from both business and technical teams. Ability to communicate value of digital technology in business KPIs and terms
  • Creative problem solver, able to understand business strategy and needs and proactively identify digital solutions
  • Experience managing customers' expectations and strong ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with business areas.


  • Customer centricity and ability to ensure service levels are meet as agreed with the business.
  • Experience controlling budget and tracking value realization. Experience with LEAN concepts.
  • Verbal and written skills to effectively convey complex IT concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Fluency in English; Portuguese is an strong asset
