Full Job Description
Do you have a passion for safety, reliability, operational excellence, and leading high-performing maintenance teams? Air Products is seeking an experienced Maintenance Superintendent to support our La Porte, Texas ASU and HYCO facilities. In this critical leadership role, you will drive safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant operations by leading maintenance activities, developing maintenance personnel, and improving equipment performance across multiple production assets. This position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on plant reliability, team development, and business results while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence. As the Maintenance Superintendent, you will provide leadership, technical direction, and strategic oversight for the maintenance organization supporting the La Porte ASU, LHY, HYCO3, HYCO4, SMR, and Phillips facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring safe and efficient execution of daily maintenance activities, planned turnarounds, and unplanned outage response while developing a highly capable maintenance workforce focused on equipment integrity and reliability. Key responsibilities include: • Lead and champion a strong safety culture by promoting safe work practices, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory requirements. • Direct day-to-day maintenance activities, turnaround execution, and outage recovery efforts to maximize plant reliability and operational performance. • Review and prioritize maintenance work schedules to ensure scope, resources, and execution plans are clearly understood by the maintenance team. • Develop and review job safety plans to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently. • Provide coaching, mentorship, and hands-on technical guidance to maintenance personnel and contractors. • Evaluate employee performance, identify development opportunities, and build succession plans to strengthen organizational capability. • Partner closely with Operations and Plant Leadership teams to establish maintenance priorities based on equipment criticality and operational needs. • Foster a collaborative, engaged team environment through open communication, problem-solving, and employee involvement. • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on maintenance processes, reliability performance, productivity, and cost optimization. • Ensure the successful implementation and administration of preventive and predictive maintenance programs to reduce unplanned downtime and improve asset reliability. • Support capital and maintenance projects, turnarounds, budgeting activities, and long-term maintenance planning efforts. • Promote effective planning and scheduling processes while monitoring maintenance KPIs, workforce productivity, equipment performance, and budget adherence. • Communicate work progress, safety incidents, staffing needs, overtime requirements, and operational challenges to key stakeholders. Qualifications: • Minimum 7+ years of experience within petrochemical, industrial gas, refining, chemical manufacturing, maintenance, or operations environments. • Previous supervisory, management, or maintenance leadership experience strongly preferred. • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred. Equivalent maintenance, technical, or industrial experience will be considered in lieu of formal education. • Technical trade school training in maintenance, instrumentation, or related disciplines is a plus. • Strong working knowledge of SAP maintenance systems and proven ability to train and mentor others in system utilization. • Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record of developing teams and driving organizational performance. • Strong technical aptitude with knowledge of reliability, predictive maintenance, mechanical systems, and maintenance best practices. • Exceptional organizational, planning, budgeting, and project management capabilities. • Effective interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills. • Proven ability to influence across functions, build credibility, and establish strong working relationships throughout the organization. • Ability to lead through change, solve complex problems, and drive results in a fast-paced operational environment.
