This role is located in the Seattle or San Francisco hub. You must be able to work from one of these hubs to qualify.

At Atlassian, we build AI/ML products, platforms, and infrastructure that solve business, product, security, and engineering challenges across the company. Our work spans AI-powered governance and compliance, applied ML systems for recommendation and optimization, and foundational ML platforms, partnering with teams across Engineering, Product, Growth, Sales, Marketing, and Security. Depending on team placement, you may contribute to governance and compliance intelligence, recommendation and optimization systems, or platforms for ML development, serving, and observability. You will work with experienced mentors on a focused project, developing your skills while delivering measurable improvements in quality, reliability, or user outcome.

• Build and evaluate applied AI/ML solutions for real-world product and business problems, with mentorship from experienced engineers.
• Contribute to machine learning and Generative AI projects, including models, agents, retrieval, and evaluation workflows.
• Translate business and product needs into well-scoped technical projects, from experimentation and prototyping to working implementations.
• Evaluate and improve AI/ML solutions through experimentation, error analysis, user feedback, and measurable results.
• Communicate findings clearly and document results, trade-offs, limitations, and next steps.

Compensation

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience.

Pay Ranges

In The United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: $54/hr - $61/hr

Zone B: $49/hr - $55/hr

Zone C: $45/hr - $51/hr

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full-time Master's degree program in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field), returning to the program after the internship, and graduating by August 2028.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, with experience in Python and familiarity with testing, version control, APIs, data structures, and debugging.
• Hands-on experience building machine learning or AI systems through coursework, research, or industry internships, including areas such as recommendation/ranking, NLP, classification, embeddings, LLM applications, RAG, agents, or model evaluation.
• Uses AI-assisted tools thoughtfully for development and experimentation, validates generated code and outputs, and can explain where AI adds value, its limitations, and when a simpler approach is more appropriate.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with a curious, AI-first mindset and an interest in building reliable and responsible AI/ML solutions.
• Able to commit to a 12-week, full-time (40 hours/week) Summer 2027 internship.
