Level II Mechanical Engineer

Summary of Duties

North Star Scientific Corporation is seeking a Level II Mechanical Engineer in Oklahoma City, OK to support the design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of ruggedized radar and communication systems. This mid-level engineering position is responsible for applying sound mechanical engineering principles to develop and support complex mechanical designs while working independently on assigned tasks and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams. The Level II Mechanical Engineer contributes to product development, verification testing, manufacturing support, and continuous product improvement while assisting senior engineering staff in the successful execution of engineering projects.
  • Provides mechanical engineering support for the design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of ruggedized radar and communication systems.
  • Designs electronic packaging, thermal management solutions, cable assemblies, test fixtures, and custom mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software.
  • Performs thermal and structural analyses using analytical calculations and computational simulation tools to evaluate design performance and optimize product reliability.
  • Develops engineering documentation, including detailed drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), assembly instructions, technical procedures, engineering change documentation, and technical reports.
  • Plans, conducts, and supports verification, validation, and environmental qualification testing to ensure products meet performance, reliability, and customer requirements.
  • Assists with the setup, operation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of environmental and mechanical test equipment, including temperature, altitude, humidity chambers, and electrodynamic vibration (shaker) systems.
  • Provides technical support to the Quality Assurance department by participating in root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous product quality improvements.
  • Collaborates with electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, procurement, production, and outside vendors to support product development, manufacturing, and project execution.
  • Exercises sound engineering judgment while performing engineering assignments of moderate complexity with minimal supervision.
  • Assists senior and lead engineers in project execution, technical problem solving, and design reviews.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Reports To: Lead Engineering Staff

Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Level of Interactions: Regularly collaborates with project technical leads, engineering group leaders, senior engineers, technicians, quality assurance personnel, manufacturing, procurement, and outside vendors to support the design, testing, production, and delivery of engineering projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Experience
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of mechanical engineering experience in product design and development.
  • Experience using 3D CAD software to develop mechanical components and assemblies.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or CATIA.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software such as SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks Flow, STAR-CCM+, or Ansys.
  • Competency in preparing engineering drawings in accordance with ASME standards, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to independently organize work, manage multiple assignments, prioritize competing tasks, and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain eligibility for access to classified information in accordance with U.S. Government security requirements.


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.

  • Experience designing ruggedized electronic packaging or electromechanical assemblies for ground, naval, airborne, or other harsh operating environments.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software.
  • Experience supporting environmental qualification testing in accordance with military, aerospace, or commercial industry standards.
  • Familiarity with military and aerospace design standards, including environmental qualification requirements.
  • Experience supporting product development through manufacturing transition, verification testing, and design validation.
