Full Job Description
Leidos is seeking a Reliability, Maintainability and Availability (RMA) Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team supporting the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) program. ERAM is a mission-critical component of the National Airspace System (NAS), providing the technology that enables air traffic controllers to safely and efficiently manage high-altitude air traffic across the United States.

The RMA Engineer will support the engineering, analysis, and sustainment of complex aviation and air traffic management systems, helping ensure they meet stringent reliability, maintainability, availability, and operational performance requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

The RMA Engineer will provide systems engineering and analytical support to aviation ground systems and air traffic control programs. Responsibilities include:
  • Develop, analyze, and maintain Reliability, Maintainability and Availability (RMA) requirements and specifications throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Perform system-level RMA modeling, analysis, and performance predictions to assess system reliability, availability, maintainability, and operational performance.
  • Support system and design reviews, providing RMA assessments and recommendations to identify risks and improve system performance.
  • Develop and support test plans, procedures, and evaluations to verify compliance with RMA requirements.
  • Perform failure analysis and trending, identify root causes and systemic issues, and support the development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Support reliability growth initiatives by evaluating field performance, failure trends, and corrective-action effectiveness.
  • Analyze field maintenance, operational, and maintenance-data-collection information to assess system performance and identify opportunities for reliability and maintainability improvements.
  • Develop and evaluate system sustainment scenarios and provide RMA engineering support for lifecycle planning and operational availability assessments.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, hardware, software, maintenance, logistics, test, and program teams to integrate RMA considerations throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Provide RMA engineering expertise in support of FAA-sponsored programs within the National Airspace System.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline with 4-8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 2-6 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience applying systems engineering principles and processes throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Experience with requirements development, analysis, documentation, and management.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to develop clear and concise engineering documentation.
  • Ability to analyze technical data, identify trends and issues, and communicate findings and recommendations to engineering and program stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment, collaborating with systems, hardware, software, test, maintenance, and program teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Reliability, Maintainability and Availability (RMA) engineering, including one or more of the following: reliability analysis, maintainability analysis, availability modeling, failure analysis, reliability predictions, or lifecycle/sustainment analysis.
  • Experience supporting systems subject to government or industry RMA requirements, standards, and engineering processes.
  • Experience analyzing field performance, maintenance, failure, or operational data to assess system reliability and identify performance trends.
  • Familiarity with aviation systems, air traffic management systems, or the National Airspace System (NAS).
  • Experience supporting FAA programs or other mission-critical government systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with both ground-based and airborne aviation systems and operational environments is highly desirable.
