Full Job Description
The Lead GIS Architect serves as the technical leader and primary architect for the enterprise GIS platform, responsible for the strategy, design, administration, security, and long-term roadmap of GIS infrastructure and technologies. This role leads the development and optimization of enterprise geospatial systems across cloud and on-premises environments while providing technical leadership, governance, and mentorship to ensure a scalable, secure, and reliable GIS ecosystem that supports business objectives.
Job Responsibilities:

• Lead the strategy, architecture, and technical roadmap for the enterprise GIS platform.
• Design, implement, administer, and optimize ArcGIS Enterprise environments and supporting infrastructure.
• Manage GIS infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments, ensuring performance, scalability, availability, and security.
• Oversee enterprise geodatabases, system integrations, and platform lifecycle management.
• Establish and maintain GIS governance, architecture standards, security controls, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Direct software upgrades, migrations, patching, and platform modernization initiatives.
• Partner with IT, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders to deliver secure and reliable GIS solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to GIS professionals and cross-functional teams.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and drive innovation across the organizations geospatial technology landscape.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• Ten (10+) years of GIS experience, including extensive ArcGIS Enterprise architecture and administration experience.
• Five (5+) years of experience leading enterprise GIS infrastructure, servers, and database environments.
• Eight (8+) years of oil and gas industry experience.
• Advanced expertise in GIS architecture, enterprise systems administration, geospatial data management, and platform security.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), virtualization, networking, and enterprise database administration.
• Proven leadership experience driving enterprise GIS initiatives, technology strategy, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Masters Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• Esri Enterprise Administration certification or equivalent hands-on certification experience.
• Experience supporting upstream oil and gas operations, surface infrastructure, facilities, and associated datasets.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure design and administration (AWS, Azure, or similar), including containerization and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
• Working knowledge of IT security practices, identity management (SSO/SAML/Active Directory), and network architecture as applied to enterprise systems.
• Experience establishing GIS governance standards, systems administration best practices, and disaster recovery/business continuity planning.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and implement innovative GIS infrastructure and architecture solutions.
• Proven attention to detail and ability to solve complex technical and business challenges.
