You Are:A senior practitioner who would rather spend a week inside a million lines of COBOL than a day inside a tidy summary and who is ready to own the discipline itself: the methodology, the tooling, the quality bar, and the named technical point of view we put in front of clients and the market.
This is the senior technical track at Accenture: we hire people here who would rather own a methodology than carry a number.
The Work:As an Associate Director in this family, you are the technical owner of Code Archaeology. Concretely, that means three things at once:
Methodology Ownership- Own the evidence-first discovery methodology, including the five discovery domains, correlation across them, and the discovery-to-architecture handoff.
- Define what is in scope and out of scope for archaeology engagements.
- Defend the methodology against scope drift from both technical and business perspectives.
Asset Portfolio Ownership- Own the archaeology tooling, knowledge graph pipelines, and language-coverage roadmap, including mainframe-era languages.
- Ensure every major engagement either consumes or contributes to the asset portfolio.
- Decide which assets should be standardized and productized.
Technical Point of View Leadership- Serve as the public technical voice of the discipline.
- Lead conference presentations, client architecture councils, and technical thought leadership initiatives.
- Shape and communicate the market perspective on why excavation must precede transformation.
Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0% to 100% depending on business need and client requirements. Here's What You Need- Minimum of 12 years in enterprise software engineering, including significant brownfield modernization at multi-million-LOC scale.
- Minimum of 3 years leading large-scale architectural discovery or modernization engagements, with at least one you can speak to in detail as the named technical owner.
- 5+ years working fluency with knowledge graphs and ontology modeling ( skill matrix for this family: Ontology, Knowledge Graph, Data Taxonomy), plus static analysis, dependency analysis, and Git history mining.
- 2+ years of hands-on work with LLM-assisted code analysis.
- Minimum 3 years of experience leading the development, commercialization, or ongoing evolution of a productized offering, platform, or reusable methodology, with direct accountability for its roadmap, adoption, or business outcomes
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 12 years) work experience. (If Associate's Degree, must have minimum 6 years work experience).
Professional Skills:- Demonstrated ability to walk into a client executive's office and earn the room on technical depth alone.
- A clear, defensible point of view on the current AI frontier - what's real, what's hype, what matters in 18 months - that you can articulate publicly.
Bonus Points if You Have:- Published or spoken on AI-augmented code analysis, code archaeology, or software architecture recovery.
- Experience with retrieval-augmented generation over code corpora and agent context engineering.
- Mainframe-era language fluency (COBOL, PL/I) alongside modern stacks - the estates that need this most are the oldest ones.
- Comfort being outranked on pipeline conversations and outvoting on technical ones.
- A track record of editing methodology the way engineers edit code.
- Frontier-partner relationships (Anthropic, OpenAI, hyperscaler AI organizations, or equivalent).
