Full Job Description
Job Summary

Windsor Salt's Ojibway Mine in Windsor, Ontario, has openings for Journeyman Machine Repairpersons--proof of completion of an accredited Skilled Trades Ontario program is required (e.g., 421A - Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, 310T - Truck and Coach Technician). These individuals will be responsible for maintaining stationary and mobile industrial machinery and equipment in a fast-paced environment. Employees may be assigned to positions on surface (in the mill or maintenance shop) or underground (in the mine). Employees will be expected to work on all three shifts (days/afternoons/midnights) and work overtime as required.

** Please note that candidates will be required to successfully complete a background check and medical/audio exam upon offer acceptance. Windsor Salt is a unionized facility (Unifor Local 1959); successful candidates will be required to join the union upon commencement of employment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate all mining equipment and lubricate equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Complete inspection sheets, timecards, work orders, and other reports
  • Clearly communicate work and status updates with peers and supervisors
  • Support hoist and shaft work as needed
  • Perform troubleshooting on various equipment
  • Read and utilize hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical schematics associated with equipment
  • Utilize computers and CMMS systems
  • Complete proper installations of systems and components on stationary and mobile equipment
  • Assist in the training of employees of lesser skill
  • Perform greasing, cleaning, and inspecting of equipment, including the safe and proficient operation of the fuel truck
  • Train other employees in safe job procedures of mechanic work
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free workplace at all times
  • Contribute to the maintenance team by accomplishing other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • At least 3 years of experience in a mechanic position, preferred
  • Must be familiar with the Lock Out/Tag Out policy and procedures
  • Must be proficient in hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair
  • Proficient in low-voltage electrical systems and cutting and grinding tasks
  • Must be skilled in diesel engine troubleshooting and repair
  • Must be proficient in welding and cutting
  • Proficient in reading and working from fabrication drawings, hydraulic prints, and schematics, and automotive-type low-voltage electrical schematics
  • Must be proficient in diagnosing machine malfunctions, adjusting, disassembling mechanical sub-assemblies, replacing broken or worn parts, and reassembling mechanical sub-assemblies
  • Computer knowledge, including CAT ET, Windows, SMAG, GHH, etc.
  • Must have a working knowledge of crushers, screeners, and conveyors
  • Have knowledge of power transmission and alignment procedures


In addition, this individual will have:

  • Class A Mechanic (421T or 310T) required
  • Welding certification or experience is an asset
