HVAC Technician

Job Summary

The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and environmental control systems within agricultural and production facilities. This role plays a critical part in maintaining optimal environmental conditions to support operational efficiency, product quality, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, inspect, service, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems across greenhouse, production, and storage environments
  • Monitor, maintain, and optimize environmental control systems, including temperature, humidity, ventilation, and airflow
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues and implement timely and effective corrective actions
  • Execute preventative maintenance programs to reduce equipment downtime and extend asset lifespan
  • Operate and troubleshoot automated systems, including sensors, control panels, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
  • Ensure proper air quality, filtration, and environmental conditions are consistently maintained across the facility
  • Calibrate and maintain thermostats, humidistats, and environmental monitoring equipment
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals to support installation and repairs
  • Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation
  • Ensure adherence to all safety standards, environmental regulations, and site-specific biosecurity protocols
  • Provide technical guidance and training to operations staff on HVAC system functionality and best practices
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including energy efficiency and system optimization projects


Qualifications and Education Requirements

Required:
  • Diploma or certification in HVAC, Refrigeration, or a related field
  • Valid HVAC/refrigeration license (as required by provincial regulations)
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems

Preferred:
  • Experience with automated environmental control systems in agricultural or industrial settings
  • Electrical background (e.g., Industrial Electrician certification or equivalent experience)
  • Familiarity with energy management and efficiency practices
  • Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., food production, cannabis, or pharmaceuticals)


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment (50 lbs or more)
  • Frequent bending, climbing, standing, and kneeling
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and humid conditions for extended periods
  • Work may be performed in greenhouse, production, and industrial environments with varying temperatures and humidity levels
  • May require working at heights, in confined spaces, or with specialized equipment
  • Participation in on-call rotation and availability for emergency response may be required


Compensation range: $35 - $47/hr. Actual compensation will depend on education, experience, tickets, and internal equity.
