The Opportunity

Design What Comes Next

Help define, build, and scale a new Automation Centre of Excellence that will transform how WSP delivers global IT services, operates platforms, and supports our people.

As IT Automation Architect, you will shape WSP's IT automation ecosystem by architecting enterprise frameworks, reusable patterns, standards, and guardrails. This role combines deep technical engineering expertise with strategic architectural thinking to enable secure, scalable automation across IT.

Your Impact

Automation Strategy & Governance

  • Define and evolve the IT automation strategy, target architecture, standards, governance framework, and technology roadmap for the Automation Centre of Excellence (CoE).


  • Identify, assess, and prioritise automation opportunities that improve operational efficiency, service quality, and user experience.


  • Establish and maintain automation policies, standards, reusable patterns, and governance processes to drive consistency, scalability, and compliance across IT.


Automation Architecture & Design

  • Architect enterprise automation solutions across infrastructure, cloud, network, cybersecurity, identity, end-user computing, IT service management, and operations.


  • Develop reference architectures, design standards, integration patterns, and implementation guidance that enable IT teams to deliver secure and scalable automation solutions.


  • Evaluate and recommend automation technologies and platforms that align with organisational objectives and enterprise architecture principles.


Technical Leadership & Assurance

  • Provide architectural leadership, design guidance, and technical assurance for automation initiatives delivered by IT teams.


  • Lead architecture reviews, design workshops, and governance activities to ensure solutions align with approved standards, security requirements, and operational objectives.


  • Establish guardrails that enable innovation while maintaining security, compliance, resilience, and operational integrity.


Stakeholder Engagement & Enablement

  • Partner with IT stakeholders to develop automation roadmaps, validate requirements, and align initiatives with organisational priorities.


  • Act as the subject matter expert for automation architecture, promoting best practices, capability development, and an automation-first culture across IT.


  • Mentor technical teams and facilitate knowledge sharing to increase automation maturity and adoption.


Value Realisation & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain visibility of the automation portfolio, including priorities, risks, dependencies, and realised benefits.


  • Define and monitor success measures for automation initiatives, including productivity gains, operational efficiency, service quality, reliability, and cost optimisation.


  • Drive continuous improvement of automation capabilities, standards, and practices across the organisation.


The Skills That Set You Apart

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.


  • Relevant industry certifications in enterprise architecture, cloud platforms, automation, IT service management, or cybersecurity are considered an asset.


  • Professional certifications such as TOGAF, Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solutions Architect, ITIL, CISSP, or equivalent are desirable.


Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud, platform engineering, operations, enterprise architecture, automation, or related technology disciplines.


  • Demonstrated experience designing and governing enterprise-scale automation solutions across multiple IT domains, including infrastructure, cloud, networks, cybersecurity, identity, end-user computing, and IT service management.


  • Experience establishing or contributing to automation governance frameworks, standards, operating models, and Centres of Excellence (CoE).


  • Proven ability to identify, prioritise, and drive automation initiatives that deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, service quality, reliability, and operational maturity.


  • Experience evaluating automation platforms, integration technologies, orchestration tools, and infrastructure-as-code capabilities, and defining enterprise adoption standards.


  • Strong understanding of modern automation concepts, including workflow orchestration, APIs, infrastructure as code, event-driven automation, platform automation, AI-assisted automation, and observability.


  • Experience leading architecture reviews, design workshops, technical governance forums, and stakeholder engagement activities.


  • Proven ability to influence technical teams and stakeholders without direct authority and drive adoption of enterprise standards and architectural principles.


  • Experience operating within large, complex, multi-disciplinary IT environments with multiple technology teams and service owners.


Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong enterprise architecture and solution architecture capabilities.


  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cloud services, networks, cybersecurity, identity and access management, end-user computing, and IT service management practices.


  • Knowledge of automation platforms, scripting technologies, cloud-native automation capabilities, orchestration frameworks, CI/CD concepts, and infrastructure-as-code approaches.


  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.


  • Ability to translate organisational requirements into scalable, secure, and supportable automation architectures.


  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, governance, and strategic planning capabilities.


  • Ability to develop standards, policies, reference architectures, and technical guidance that can be adopted across multiple teams.


Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Experience establishing or leading an Automation Centre of Excellence.


  • Experience supporting digital transformation, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or operational excellence initiatives.


  • Experience leveraging AI and generative AI technologies within automation solutions and operational workflows.

$135,200 - $179,100

MB & ON:

$123,300 - $169,800

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC:

$122,100 - $162,200
