POSITION OVERVIEW
The Interconnection Engineer is a member of the Project Engineering organization responsible for the technical execution and coordination of grid interconnection activities for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), solar PV, hybrid renewable, and data center energy infrastructure projects. This role is critical to project feasibility and requires deep understanding of ISO/RTO processes, utility coordination, and grid integration for both generation and large load applications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the Project Engineering technical lead for grid interconnection requirements on assigned projects.
Translate Interconnection Agreement (IA), Generator Interconnection Agreement (GIA), utility, ISO/RTO, and transmission-owner requirements into project engineering requirements.Develop interconnection strategies across projects
Manage interconnection applications, studies, and agreements
Interface with utilities and ISOs/RTOs
Track milestones, timelines, and upgrade costs
Identify and mitigate interconnection risks
Maintain interconnection positions through COD
Track technical interconnection issues through resolution.
Maintain traceability between study assumptions, equipment selection, final design, commissioning settings, and as-built configuration.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in engineering, or related field.
5+ years of interconnection or power systems experience
Deep understanding of ISO/RTO processes and utility tariffs
Experience with CAISO a plus
Experience with:
Large load interconnections (data centers)
DER / BTM / hybrid systems applications
Strong technical understanding of transmission and distribution systems
Proven ability to manage utility and regulatory relationships
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work accurately under time pressure.
Strong communication skills and the ability to present technical findings in a clear, concise business format.
Ability to work effectively across commercial, operational, and financial teams.
