The opportunity

EY's Incentives and Capital investments team is part of our Global Compliance and Reporting practice and brings together a multidisciplinary group of tax, accounting, science and technology professionals. The team helps organizations access and optimize a broad range of incentives, including SRED, sustainability programs, discretionary grants and capital investment credits. Working across industries and company sizes, BTI supports clients in aligning their innovation and investment strategies with available funding opportunities to drive stronger business outcomes.

As a Senior Tax Staff, you will play a key role in helping clients navigate Canada's evolving innovation landscape. You will build an understanding of tax policy and the economic drivers while supporting clients in identifying eligible SRED activities and assessing other incentive opportunities.

This role is well suited for someone with an accounting background and a few years of experience who is looking to deepen their expertise at the intersection of tax, innovation and sustainability while working with forward-thinking organizations.

Your key responsibilities
  • Participating in scoping sessions to identify eligible SRED projects and expenditures.
  • Preparing qualifying expenditure summaries and assisting with tax submissions.
  • Reviewing project cost summaries for accuracy and classifying costs into appropriate Capital Cost Allowance - CCA - classes.
  • Consulting with engineers and aligning technical details with tax classifications
  • Drafting technical analyses and legislative references to support client tax positions.
  • Managing client expectations, delivering high-quality services, and meeting strict deadlines while leading reviews with the Canada Revenue Agency.
  • Keeping updated on trends and legislative developments and contributing to thought leadership materials
  • Maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in client relationships and identifying opportunities for additional specialty tax services.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, law or another relevant discipline.
  • 2 or more years' experience Canadian Corporate Tax, SRED or incentives experience is valued.
  • A professional accounting or legal credential such as CPA, CPA In-depth Tax Course, Master in Taxation or Master of Tax Law is an asset.
