Full Job Description
A Snapshot of Your Day
As Thermal Design Engineer supporting Siemens Energy's Additive Manufacturing division, you will drive advanced thermal design and heat transfer engineering within the North American Design and Product Implementation team. You will focus on thermal modeling, design optimization of additive manufacturing components and validation of heat transfer systems. In this role, you will apply your background in mechanical or aerospace engineering, computational heat transfer and additive manufacturing design constraints to support the strategic growth of the business and ensure business continuity for FY2027.
How You'll Make an Impact
Develop and optimize advanced heat transfer components utilizing additive manufacturing design principles (DfAM) to enhance thermal efficiency.
Perform analytical and numerical thermal modeling, including steady-state and transient heat transfer analyses, on gas turbine or distributed energy components.
Collaborate with cross-functional design teams to integrate innovative cooling technologies and thermal barrier coatings into product designs.
Set up, execute and post-process complex Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and finite element thermal simulations to validate design performance.
Define test plans, instrument prototypes and analyze experimental data from thermal and flow testing to validate analytical models.
Identify potential thermal risks, such as overheating or excessive thermal stress, and implement design mitigations.
Prepare detailed technical reports, design review packages and engineering documentation to support product certification and implementation.
Provide technical expertise and engineering support to manufacturing, quality and field operations teams during product deployment.
What You Bring
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a closely related thermal science discipline.
2 or more years of professional experience in heat transfer design, thermal analysis or fluid dynamics, preferably within the turbomachinery or energy sector.
Demonstrated experience with additive manufacturing design constraints and advanced thermal simulation tools.
Experience in conduction, convection and radiation heat transfer analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, CFX or Star-CCM+) and thermal stress and finite element analysis (FEA).
Knowledge of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g., NX, SolidWorks) and thermal management system architecture.
Experience with data analysis and experimental validation methodologies, technical writing and documentation and cross-functional collaboration in R&D environments.
Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice versa.
Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
