Job Title: Head of Platform Technologies, MSAT Recombinant Mammalian Drug Substance CoE
  • Location: Framingham, MA


Main Responsibilities

The Head of Platform Technologies will lead a Subject Matter Experts (SME) team to deliver the following core objectives:
  • Lead the evaluation of Sanofi's next-generation platform technologies including perfusion cell culture, continuous purification, advanced Process Analytical Technology (PAT), smart manufacturing, and emerging novel process chemistries. Develop the MSAT position on development data package requirements, at-scale operational readiness, transferability, lab-scale model expectations, and MSAT training and expertise needs. Ensure alignment of platform-technology initiatives with broader organizational objectives such as 2nd-generation program development, process robustness, and yield improvement.
  • Establish and maintain cutting-edge innovation laboratory infrastructures within the COE. Partner with upstream, downstream, and analytical teams to advance lab digitization and automation. Build additional laboratory and pilot-scale capabilities that embody Sanofi's smart-lab future concept.


  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with external partners and vendors. Oversee multiple collaboration projects with external suppliers to support manufacturing investigations, process development, raw material characterization, novel equipment and capability assessment, and co-development of new technologies. Coordinate these activities seamlessly with MSAT, R&D, and Global Procurement functions.


  • Drive global MSAT innovation initiatives in collaboration with other technology platforms (Vaccines, Drug Product, Microbial). Promote knowledge sharing and best-practice adoption across teams. Represent MSAT's scientific excellence in internal forums (smart factory, digital transformation, eco-design, efficiency) and external forums (Bio-Industry forums, biomanufacturing conferences). Strengthening Sanofi's reputation as a leader in biopharmaceutical manufacturing innovation.


  • Contribute to CoE activities by providing SME input and technical guidance for laboratory work, commercial program life cycle management, and technology transfers. Collaborate effectively with both local and network cross-function teams (e.g. lab, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, business etc.) as needed.


  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering their professional growth and technical expertise, while ensuring a diverse technical background and comprehensive skillset coverage for drug substance processes as part of CoE strategic workforce planning.


About You

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Chemical/Biological/ Sciences/Engineering - preferred. Master's degree - required.
  • 10+ years of experience related to biopharmaceutical industry - required.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in biologics drug substance process development, technology development or manufacturing support - required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading bioprocess and biomanufacturing innovation initiatives from concept through implementation. Deep knowledge of bioprocess development and operations (e.g., upstream, downstream, drug-substance stability). Familiarity with laboratory, pilot-scale, and large-scale manufacturing operations.
  • Process knowledge across multiple modalities (e.g. mAbs, small protein and peptide, bioconjugates, nucleotides, Gene/cell therapy, organic chemistry etc.)
  • Prior experience of managing suppliers, contractor manufacturing or contract research partners
  • Excellent scientific background and effective communication skills. Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines. Highly motivated individual, with the ability to work independently as well as within cross-functional and cross-site teams
  • Oral and written fluency in English

The salary range for this position is:
$178,500.00 - $257,833.33
