The Role

PVEDI recently partnered with Stratus and is seeking a Project Engineer with expertise in Geotechnical and environmental investigation, inspections, and design to join our growing team in New York. This position offers a primarily technical role with pathways for advancement into project leadership for candidates with interest in career development. This dynamic position spans from detailed structural engineering to potential project oversight, tailored to your skills and career aspirations.

Responsibilities
  • Installation of groundwater monitoring wells and inclinometers,
  • Carry out Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing, carry out infiltration tests (i.e. percolation, falling or rising head)
  • Classification of soils/rock per the NYC Building Code (BC) and the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) based on laboratory and field classifications
  • Draft and/or interpret boring, CPT and test pit logs using geotechnical software
  • Prepare geotechnical models from field investigations and interpretation of laboratory test results
  • Analyze shoring and footing systems using geotechnical software, Plaxis
  • Geotechnical inspections may include shallow footings, pile drilling/driving, shoring, compaction, geotechnical mapping including rock and slope stability
  • Aid in retaining wall assessments and designs
  • Settlement calculations
  • Slope stability assessments using geotechnical software (Plaxis, Slide2 or Slope/W)
  • Prepare drawings for support of embankment instability, retaining wall support and underpinning
  • Pile design, helical, driven, bored, etc.
  • Prepare design/analysis specifications and calculations for active projects
  • Environmental consulting includes supervising, documenting and processing data from soil borings and monitoring well installations.
  • Interfacing with clients, with assistance of Senior Staff, for the preparation of proposals, work plans and cost estimates for geotechnical consulting services.
  • Coordination and management of subcontractors, logging borings and test pit excavations
  • Ensure contractors adhere to the contract documents (field/office) and prepare summary documentation for presentation with results of investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports, ensuring structure and language utilized is easily understood by the client and is grammatically correct.
  • Assist and maintain project schedules, change orders and budgets.
  • Client relations/management including scope negotiations, review of findings, and business development to a lesser extent.
  • A working knowledge of environmental site assessments (Phase I and II ESAs) and Brownfield Redevelopment.

  • 4-8+ years of proven experience in geotechnical engineering design, calculations, drawings, and analysis
  • Knowledge of soil classification systems (NYS/NYC BC, USCS), geotechnical logging and mapping, building codes.
  • Advanced proficiency with analysis and design software
  • Experience with Revit or similar modeling software is highly desirable
  • Strong technical writing skills for reports, memos, and calculations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities with cross-disciplinary collaboration skills
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, organized approach with ability to manage multiple tasks under deadlines
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as needed
