What you’ll be doing:
As a part of the Strategic Analytics and Modeling team within the Transformation Command Center working on Network Capital Strategy, you will lead projects to develop and perform complex AI-first and agentic modeling including statistical, analytical or advanced analytics on challenging long-term network capacity questions, aiming to "right-size" the future capacity planning needs for the multi-billion dollar investments in our Verizon Network.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll have high autonomy to create, improve, design and execute using AI for capacity simulations and optimization, in partnership with the relevant business partners, while on the lookout for new modeling techniques, evolving technologies and emerging industry trends that can improve accuracy, speed or generally quality of simulations. Your work will help ensure that the needs of the network that serves our customer has accurate capacity plans so downstream finance teams may appropriately fund budgetary requests for next-year expansion or operational network efforts.
Responsibilities include:
- Working with stakeholders to develop AI, agent-based modeling, and algorithmic modeling for network elements and processes to support the 3-year capital budget.
- Planning and executing the design of the new capacity model, obtaining general agreement from NCS and the business team.
- Operating the model across multiple checkpoints in a year, creating a hardened deployment, documentation, and plans for future automation of the process.
- Planning future upgrades to the model with alternate types of algorithms, AI science or additional input features.
- Actively leveraging and piloting AI tools — including agentic workflows, LLM-assisted coding, and automated documentation/reporting — to accelerate model development, scenario testing, and stakeholder deliverables; Verizon expressly supports and encourages AI-augmented approaches to this work.
- Assertively adapt and navigate roadblocks in the software development process, self-resolving issues and escalating roadblocks when appropriate.
- Conducting occasional presentations to leaders and engineers to describe the nature of created systems.
- Protecting invented Verizon Intellectual Property by pursuing patents when appropriate.
What we're looking for:
A passion for creativity, AI, innovation, process improvement, advanced algorithms, and best-practices of independent software design. A motivated, independent individual who can properly discern next-steps in the absence of requirements, and determine when to appropriately collaborate with the team and business partners. Proven ability to communicate technical information to technical or non-technical audiences with an understanding that each project has the ability to change millions of dollars of spend to benefit the customer's network experience.
You'll need to have:
- Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
- Intermediate proficiency in Python (or R), SQL with a moderate history or portfolio of accomplished projects.
- Intermediate proficiency in Alteryx or Knime.
- Experience building or integrating agentic AI workflows (e.g., LLM-based agents, tool-use/function-calling pipelines, or automation frameworks like LangChain, AutoGen, or Claude/GPT-based agents) to automate data ingestion, scenario generation, or report synthesis in support of capital planning and simulation workflows.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
- Degree in business intelligence and analytics, data science, engineering, computer science, mathematics or similar.
- Experience in time series analysis / forecasting.
- Strong experience in engineering investigations, performance optimizations, or network capacity management.
- Prior experience navigating engineering budget cycles, such as funding requests for cell-site builds in a regional role.
- Proven experience with gathering requirements and translating requirements to specific software practices.
- Experience with data engineering.
- Knowledge of cloud computing platforms e.g. Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services.
- Experience with high performance containerized GPU environments.
- Solid foundation in mathematical optimization, prescriptive modeling, and network capacity management.
- Designing, architecting, and deploying full-stack web applications and APIs—leveraging frameworks like FastAPI, custom GUIs (e.g., Flet, Marimo), and high-performance BI dashboards—to expose optimization models, streamline data ingestion, and accelerate scenario planning for non-technical leadership.
If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.
