This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Applies engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test fluid systems and other mechanically functioning equipment. Development, release, and support of engineering artifacts across the development cycle to support hardware fabrication, assembly, verification, test and operations. Implements operating procedures, resolves system malfunctions, and provide technical information. Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications. Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Own and lead the design of fluid systems including cryogenic, pneumatic, and high-pressure gas systems for new launch complex development

  • Lead technical direction and architecture decisions for fluid system design and implementation

  • Define system requirements, flow diagrams, and P&IDs from concept through preliminary design for launch complex infrastructure

  • Interface with vehicle teams to translate ICD requirements into ground system architecture

  • Drive trade studies for system sizing, equipment selection, and infrastructure layout

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define system requirements and resolve technical challenges

  • Manage suppliers and coordinate cost, schedule, and technical design requirements

  • Provide remote and on-the-ground support during fabrication, installation, and startup of new facilities or upgrades

  • Prepare project plans including budget, schedule, and work breakdown

  • Coordinate with customers on refinement of project scope and requirements

  • Mentor newer engineers and perform peer reviews

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or related field

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in fluid systems engineering

  • Demonstrated ability in the design and analysis of cryogenic and/or pneumatic fluid systems including process component selection and system architecture

  • Knowledge of cryogenic fluid behavior, heat transfer, and components (e.g., LN2, LOX, LH2, or similar cryogens)

  • Knowledge of pneumatic and compressed gas system components (e.g., valves, regulators, air dryers, filters, actuators, and compressors)

  • Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods for piping systems (pipe stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.)

  • Practical knowledge of ASME B31.3, B31.12, and relevant cryogenic and compressed gas system standards

  • Proficiency with AFT analysis products or equivalent fluid system simulation software

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Engineering degree

  • Experience architecting ground support equipment or launch complex fluid systems

  • Experience with Creo and Windchill or SINDA/FLUINT

  • Experience with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Plant/P&ID

  • Experience with Thermal Desktop or equivalent thermal modeling tools

  • Experience designing and operating test or launch facilities

  • Familiarity with NASA, DOD, or industry fluid systems design and safety standards

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
