Full Job Description
Position Summary
The Field Engineer supports the successful execution of infrastructure construction projects by providing technical expertise, field coordination, and quality assurance. This role ensures that project activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contract documents, drawings, specifications, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating daily construction activities in alignment with project goals.
- Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to ensure proper implementation in the field.
- Track progress and prepare daily reports on labor, equipment, and materials.
- Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and inspectors to resolve field issues.
Technical Support
- Provide layout and surveying assistance for structures, utilities, drainage, and roadways.
- Verify dimensions, elevations, and alignments of construction work.
- Prepare, review, and maintain project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, and field changes.
- Support quality control by monitoring work for compliance with standards and project requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce company and project safety policies in the field.
- Conduct and document safety observations and inspections.
- Ensure all work meets environmental and regulatory compliance standards.
Cost & Productivity
- Assist with quantity takeoffs, material tracking, and cost coding for project controls.
- Monitor productivity and recommend improvements to maximize efficiency.
- Support project closeout activities, including as-built drawings and final documentation.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent field experience may be considered.
- Experience: 5-10 years of related construction experience (internships/co-op experience in infrastructure projects a plus).
- Skills:
• Strong knowledge of construction documents, drawings, and specifications.
• Proficiency with construction software (e.g., AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Procore, or similar).
• Ability to read and interpret plans and perform basic surveying/layout tasks.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment
- Work is performed primarily in the field at active construction sites.
- Requires regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, cold, and inclement weather.
