Position SummaryWe are seeking a highly organized, hands-on, and collaborative professional who is passionate about recreation, facility operations, and creating safe, welcoming spaces for students and community members. Reporting to the Manager, Athletics and Recreation, the Field, Dome and Recreation Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operation of assigned recreation facilities, including the turf field and dome, while supporting the development and delivery of campus recreation programs and services. The incumbent plays a key role in ensuring facilities are safe, well-maintained, operationally effective, and responsive to the needs of varsity athletics, recreation programs, students, and community users. The role combines facility and event operations, budget management, revenue generation, bookings and rentals, vendor and community relationships, and the recruitment, training, and functional supervision of student staff and volunteers. The successful candidate will bring strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities, respond to changing conditions, and work collaboratively in a dynamic, hands-on environment. The role may require evening, weekend, and holiday work, as well as working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Responsibilities - Oversee the day-to-day operation, safety, maintenance, and readiness of the turf field, dome, and associated recreation facilities, including inspections, equipment, lighting, access controls, cleanliness, and opening/closing procedures.
- Lead the planning and coordination of field and dome maintenance, repairs, landscaping, snow removal, equipment servicing, and seasonal operations, working with vendors, contractors, Facilities Operations, Security, and other College partners.
- Monitor and control dome heat, pressure, and environmental conditions during the operating season, responding to weather-related conditions, equipment issues, facility concerns, and emergencies, including outside regular working hours when required.
- Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, annual plans, timelines, and workplans, including dome set-up and tear-down, snow removal, facility access, safety, and equipment management.
- Oversee the sports field and dome budget, monitoring revenues and expenditures, supporting annual budget planning, identifying cost efficiencies, and exploring opportunities for revenue generation through rentals and other services.
- Coordinate the procurement, inventory, maintenance, and storage of field, dome, recreation, and maintenance equipment and supplies, ensuring resources are available to support safe and effective operations.
- Coordinate and support student and part-time staff, including scheduling, training, task assignment, equipment use, opening and closing procedures, and adherence to operational and safety requirements.
- Serve as the primary contact for field and dome bookings and rentals, coordinating facility use by varsity, recreation, academic, summer camp, community, and other internal and external user groups, and managing related rental logistics.
- Develop and coordinate recreational programming that promotes active living, health, wellness, and social connection, and support Athletics and Recreation events, varsity activities, championships, orientation, and cross-campus initiatives.
- Build relationships with community partners, vendors, user groups, and College stakeholders; promote Athletics and Recreation services; provide responsive customer service; monitor facility and program usage and feedback; and recommend improvements to enhance operations and the user experience.
Qualifications/Experience - Two-year diploma in Physical Education, Recreation/Sports Management or Administration, Fitness and Health Promotion, Kinesiology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience supporting or coordinating operations for a sports field, dome, or similar facility, including sports facility management and/or turf maintenance.
- Knowledge of sports turf maintenance, agronomy, and environmental turf management practices.
- Experience developing and delivering student-focused recreation programs, including sports programming and event coordination.
- Experience scheduling, training, and coordinating staff, students, and/or volunteers, with demonstrated leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines while maintaining safe, efficient, and effective facility operations.
- Experience with budgeting and expense management, including proficiency with Excel or comparable financial management software.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with students, staff, vendors, contractors, community partners, and other stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related systems; experience with facility, scheduling, lighting, or recreation management software is an asset.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification, or ability to obtain and maintain required certifications is an asset
- Sports Turf Management & Maintenance certification from the Canadian Sports Fields Association, or equivalent, is required or considered an asset.
