This opportunity is in the Insurance Underwriting Department.

The Insurance Underwriting Department offers a culture of empowerment to produce results and resolve clients' issues. Our team has an excellent track record of success with an experienced and creative group of people that work well together while underwriting various lines of coverage for large accounts representing numerous industries.

Role Description

As the Excess Workers' Compensation Senior Regional Underwriting Manager, you will play a critical role in driving profitable growth within an assigned territory while serving as a trusted partner to brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders. You will leverage your expertise in excess workers' compensation underwriting to evaluate complex risks, develop strategic underwriting solutions, and strengthen agency relationships that support long-term business success.

In this role, you will be the face of Safety National throughout your territory, balancing technical underwriting excellence with business development and relationship management. You will collaborate closely with Business Development, Claims, Actuarial, Legal, and other underwriting teams to deliver customized solutions, manage regional strategies, and identify opportunities to expand our market presence. You will also contribute to underwriting initiatives, mentor less experienced underwriters, and help shape the future direction of our Excess Workers' Compensation underwriting operations.

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree is required, or equivalent underwriting experience.

Required Qualifications
  • 10 or more years of experience underwriting large workers' compensation accounts.
  • Strong knowledge of regional insurance markets, brokers, and customer relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex risks, evaluate loss trends, determine appropriate attachment points and pricing, and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Experience coordinating with facultative reinsurance, actuarial, legal, claims, and business development partners.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and execute territorial strategies while managing agency relationships and driving profitable growth.
  • Proven ability to mentor and provide guidance to less experienced underwriters.
  • Highly analytical, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 40% of the time to meet with brokers, clients, and industry partners.
  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
  • This position allows for a hybrid work schedule which includes a minimum of 3 days per week in our Burbank, CA Office. All employees are required to submit work from home requests and follow our Work From Home policy, which will be provided to all candidates selected to interview.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with other products such as General Liability or Commercial Auto
  • Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Insurance, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or a related field.
  • CPCU or other professional insurance designation.
  • Experience participating in underwriting strategy development and departmental initiatives.
  • Experience developing underwriting procedures and improving underwriting processes.
  • Experience representing an organization at industry conferences, seminars, and client events.
  • Experience collaborating across underwriting, claims, legal, and business development functions to deliver enterprise-wide solutions.

In our vision to be First with Co-Workers, compensation is only one piece of the comprehensive total rewards package we offer. The target base salary range for this position is $133,975 to $242,500. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location.
