Job Summary

Arch Insurance North America is seeking an experienced insurance leader to provide strategic direction, management, and leadership for the Surety Underwriting Group. This role is responsible for developing and executing underwriting strategy, achieving business unit objectives, supporting profitable growth, and partnering effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

This position can be performed from any location that is near an Arch Insurance office.

Responsibilities
  • Set strategic direction and execute actions that maximize product-line underwriting results and strengthen competitive positioning.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to achieve business unit goals and support profitable growth.
  • Lead ongoing management of the group to achieve underwriting and line-of-business goals while optimizing the use of business unit and support resources.
  • Evaluate underwriting performance, renewals, new business opportunities, actuarial trends, ceded reinsurance, market opportunities, and product applications.
  • Represent the organization in the marketplace through engagement with key customers, agents, and brokers.
  • Ensure underwriting products, practices, guidelines, and authority limits comply with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Promote underwriting discipline, product application, and marketing execution to sustain business results and growth.


Required Qualifications
  • 15-20+ years of insurance underwriting experience across home office and field environments, with strong knowledge of surety products.
  • Demonstrated experience leading high-performing, cross-functional teams with varied experience levels and skill sets.
  • Strong talent development capabilities, including mentoring, coaching, leadership development, and performance management.
  • Ability to align strategy with day-to-day operations to achieve key business objectives and drive organizational success.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across North America for account and marketing visits.
  • Ability to travel up to 35%.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, insurance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Successful completion of coursework in finance, management, accounting, and marketing.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$330,000 - $380,000/year
  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
