ES233 Project Manager - Project Office Coordination Support

Employment Category: Full-Time
Location: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD
Work Arrangement: Onsite/Hybrid
Travel: Some travel may be required
Citizenship: US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (LPR) required, with US residency for the past 3 consecutive years.

Security/Badge Requirement: Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 Investigation through NASA.

The Earth Science Division at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) hosts project offices that coordinate Earth system modeling research, scientific computing, applications, and partnerships across NASA centers, universities, and other government agencies.

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to provide scientific project management, project integration, and project controls support to the Earth Modeling Nexus and associated Project Offices. The selected candidate will work directly with project leadership, technical and scientific leads, and supporting organizations to establish and maintain an integrated view of project execution, dependencies, risks, resources, requirements, and deliverables.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized and analytical project manager who can operate effectively in a complex, science-driven environment and translate information from multiple technical teams into clear, decision-ready assessments for senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Planning & Controls: Develop and maintain the Nexus integrated schedule, milestones, requirements, deliverables, reviews, and project management tracking tools.
  • Project Integration & Performance: Coordinate across science, technical, systems, computing, data, and stakeholder teams; analyze schedules, dependencies, resources, and deliverables to assess overall project health.
  • Risk & Issue Management: Identify cross-element conflicts, resource constraints, and emerging risks; conduct critical-path and variance analysis and develop mitigation and schedule-recovery options.
  • Leadership & Review Support: Prepare dashboards, executive briefings, status reports, and decision products; coordinate major project reviews and data calls while tracking decisions and actions to closure.


Required Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Engineering, Science, Business, Information Systems, or a related technical or scientific discipline.
  • Advanced degree or professional project management certification (e.g., PMP) is highly desirable.

Experience
  • 5+ years of professional project management, program management, project controls, or technical coordination experience in a complex technical, scientific, engineering, or mission-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining integrated project schedules and milestone plans.
  • Experience managing project risks, issues, dependencies, action items, requirements, and deliverables.
  • Experience preparing project status reports, dashboards, executive briefings, and decision-support products for senior leadership.
  • Experience coordinating across multiple technical teams, organizations, or project elements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Project Management & Analysis: Strong knowledge of project controls, scheduling, dependencies, milestones, risk management, and performance monitoring, with the ability to analyze complex information and identify recovery opportunities.
  • Risk & Execution Management: Ability to anticipate cross-functional dependencies, resource conflicts, and emerging risks while developing practical solutions and actionable recommendations.
  • Communication & Coordination: Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, including executive briefings, reports, dashboards, meetings, and data calls.
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Ability to work independently and effectively across scientists, engineers, project managers, contractors, and senior leadership, using project management and collaboration tools to drive actions to completion.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Federal & NASA Experience: Experience supporting NASA, federal agencies, federally funded research organizations, or complex scientific/technical programs.
  • Science & Multi-Organization Coordination: Familiarity with Earth science, modeling, scientific computing, data systems, or Earth observation, with experience coordinating across NASA centers, universities, and external partners.
  • NASA Processes & Project Management: Experience with NASA project lifecycle activities, formal reviews, requirements assessments, and project evaluations; PMP or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Tools & Project Reporting: Experience integrating staffing, resources, contract performance, and execution data, with proficiency in project management tools and development of project dashboards and automated reporting.
