Full Job Description
Who You Are
The Energy Transactions Analyst supports QTS energy transactions from initial evaluation through diligence, internal approval, signing, and handoff. The role manages transaction workflows, maintains deal models and pipeline reporting, coordinates due diligence, and prepares financial and commercial materials for internal review and approval.
With appropriate guidance from transaction leads, the Energy Transactions Analyst independently performs standard transaction work, resolves moderate-scope issues within established guidelines, and contributes to team deliverables. The role partners closely with internal stakeholders and external transaction counterparties to keep deals on schedule. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. What You Will Do
Support energy transactions from initial evaluation through diligence, internal approval, signing, and handoff to the teams responsible for implementation and ongoing management.
Manage transaction workflows, including key steps, responsibilities, deadlines, payment milestones, approval gates, and required deliverables; monitor progress and follow up with stakeholders to keep activities and approvals on schedule.
Maintain the deal pipeline tracker and produce accurate, timely status reports for leadership, along with routine and ad hoc reports on transaction activity, milestones, and pipeline progress.
Identify workflow issues, missing information, or potential delays, and escalate concerns to the transaction lead as appropriate.
Build and maintain transaction models in partnership with the transaction lead, including financial and commercial modeling for Power Purchase Agreements, Energy Services Agreements, onsite generation, and other energy arrangements.
Maintain assumptions and calculate the cost of energy for onsite generation opportunities; run standard scenario and sensitivity analyses to evaluate pricing, transaction economics, and key deal assumptions.
Prepare term sheet comparisons summarizing key financial and commercial differences among transaction options, and calculate and maintain credit, collateral, and payment-related information for transaction reviews.
Prepare materials for Capital Committee, Investments, and other internal deal-review processes, compiling financial, commercial, operational, and diligence information into clear review materials.
Confirm that required information and approvals are obtained before transactions move through established approval gates, and maintain documentation supporting transaction recommendations and approval decisions.
Respond to standard questions regarding deal assumptions, financial outputs, status, and next steps.
Coordinate and maintain diligence checklists for external developers, project sites, and proposed transactions, tracking nondisclosure agreements, site reviews, permitting information, pricing inputs, power-delivery timing, and other diligence requirements.
Gather and validate information from internal and external stakeholders; identify incomplete, inconsistent, or outdated information and coordinate follow-up within established guidelines.
Own document control for assigned transactions, including deal records, file organization, document versions, approvals, diligence findings, and supporting materials, keeping records accurate and current in the appropriate systems and shared repositories.
Work with Energy Strategy, Finance, Legal, Development, Investments, and other internal stakeholders, as well as external developers, consultants, and transaction counterparties, to collect information, track deliverables, and clearly communicate status, deadlines, dependencies, and outstanding items.
Document lessons learned and contribute to updates to standard transaction templates, trackers, and processes, as well as team projects and process improvements within established scope.
Protect confidential transaction, financial, and commercial information.
Other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need to Be Successful
Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, business administration, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. A master's degree is not required.
Two to five or more years of relevant professional experience in financial analysis, transaction support, project finance, commercial analysis, energy, infrastructure, or a related area.
Experience building or maintaining financial models, analyzing commercial information, or supporting transactions or projects.
Experience managing multiple workstreams, deadlines, and documentation requirements.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other standard financial analysis and reporting tools.
Nice to Have
Coursework or internship experience in finance, valuation, financial modeling, transaction analysis, energy, or project development.
Experience supporting energy, power, infrastructure, utilities, real estate, development, or other capital-intensive transactions.
Familiarity with Power Purchase Agreements, Energy Services Agreements, onsite generation, or similar commercial arrangements.
Experience preparing materials for investment, capital, or transaction review processes.
Other Key Skills
Working knowledge of financial modeling, valuation concepts, and transaction economics, with the ability to maintain financial and commercial models with guidance from a transaction lead.
Ability to independently perform standard work and resolve moderate-scope problems within established guidelines, using sound judgment about when to resolve an issue independently and when to escalate.
Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple transactions and competing priorities.
Strong attention to detail, particularly when managing financial information, deadlines, and transaction documentation, including the ability to identify inconsistencies, missing information, and potential workflow issues.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and external transaction partners.
Ability to develop knowledge of energy transaction structures, internal approval requirements, and relevant operating procedures.
