Electrical Test Engineer, High Voltage Zonal ModuleLocation: Long Beach, CA.
RoleSupport design verification and production validation of a high voltage zonal control module through vehicle launch. The engineer works hands on in the client's HV lab executing component, board and module level test campaigns, building the automated setups that run them, and turning raw data into failure analysis the design team can act on.
High temperature validation is complete and low temperature validation is underway, with a parallel design revision in progress. This is an execution role with a high degree of autonomy. The engineer receives the product overview and the objective, then defines the approach, builds the setup, runs the campaign and delivers the result. Technical support is available when something is genuinely blocked, but day to day direction is not.
Responsibilities- Execute DV and PV test campaigns on high voltage zonal module hardware, including relay life cycle testing to defined cycle counts, low temperature validation and environmental stress testing.
- Build and operate bench setups using oscilloscopes, DMMs, programmable power supplies, power amplifiers, electronic loads and signal generators.
- Write Python automation to drive instrumentation and sweep test parameters, for example voltage sweeps across a 36V to 54V range and frequency sweeps, rather than manual adjustment.
- Perform component and board level characterization: buck and boost converter validation, SPI bus characterization, high side driver characterization under representative capacitive loading, and repeat run characterization across 100 plus iterations to surface intermittent failures.
- Capture and reduce test data, run first pass failure investigation, and hand findings to the responsible design engineer with a clear recommendation.
- Author and maintain test plans, procedures and reports, and report task level progress on a near daily cadence.
- Work from the product specification to determine what needs to be tested and how, with minimal direction.
Required- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field.
- 3 to 7 years in hardware test, validation or bring up, ideally on automotive or power electronics hardware.
- Demonstrated hands on bench skill: oscilloscope, DMM, power supply, electronic load, probing and instrumentation setup.
- Python for test automation and instrument control (pyvisa or equivalent).
- Component and board level debug ability. Comfortable reading schematics and datasheets.
- Self directed. Able to take an objective and define the test approach without supervision.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred- High voltage automotive experience: onboard charger, DC/DC converter, BMS, zonal or body control modules.
- Familiarity with DV and PV processes, DVP&R, and automotive environmental and life cycle test standards.
- CAN and serial bus tooling, HIL exposure.
- Prior work on a prototype to production transition within a vehicle program.
