Full Job Description
Role Summary
As an Electrical Systems Integration Engineer, you will be the "architect of the nervous system" for our next-generation autonomous construction machines. You will bridge the gap between high-level architectural theory and physical reality by designing robust power distribution networks, high-speed data links, and electrical distribution systems. This role is highly cross-functional, requiring you to collaborate with mechanical, software, operations, and manufacturing teams to ensure every sensor, actuator, Electronic Control Unit (ECU), compute, cleaning and thermal systems are seamlessly integrated into a cohesive, high-performance system.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Integration: Lead the physical and logical integration of the Bedrock autonomy kit onto machine platforms, ensuring electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and signal integrity.
Power Distribution Architecture: Design and optimize low voltage distribution systems, including wire sizing, fuse coordination, and grounding strategies to ensure system reliability and safety.
Communication Protocol Implementation: Define and validate hardware-level communication for sensors and ECUs using protocols such as GMSL, 100/1000BASE-T1 (Automotive Ethernet), CAN, and LIN.
3D CAD Design: Utilize 3D CAD tools to model electrical routing, connector placements, and mounting solutions within complex mechanical envelopes.
Supplier & Vendor Management: Act as the primary technical point of contact for external suppliers, managing the procurement of custom harnesses, sensors, and controllers from specification through to delivery.
Project Management: Manage integration timelines, track technical risks, and lead "bring-up" phases for prototype builds.
Troubleshooting & Validation: Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN tools to diagnose and resolve complex system-level electrical issues during lab and field testing.
Full-Lifecycle Harness Design: Develop complex 2D schematics and 3D wire routings for autonomous sensor suites, compute platforms, and power distribution units.
High-Speed Data Integrity: Specify and integrate specialized cabling (Shielded Twisted Pair, Coax, Differential Pairs) for protocols like GMSL, 100/1000BASE-T1, and 10G ethernet
Component Selection: Source and validate connectors, terminals, seals, and shielding materials suitable for a construction environment
EMI/EMC Mitigation: Implement advanced shielding and grounding strategies to protect sensitive sensor data from the high-frequency noise generated by the autonomous compute and vehicle alternators.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical, or a related field.
Experience: 7+ years of experience in vehicle or heavy machinery electrical systems integration.
Technical Proficiency:
Deep understanding of high-speed SerDes (GMSL/FPD-Link) and Automotive Ethernet.
Hands-on experience with CAN/LIN network design and debugging.
Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., Cadonix Arcadia,Mentor Graphics Capital,, Zuken E3.series, or) and 3D routing tools (e.g., OnShape CATIA V5/V6 Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or Siemens NX).
Project Leadership: Proven ability to manage multi-phase engineering projects and coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders.
Vendor Relations: Experience managing harness vendors from initial RFQ through DFM (Design for Manufacturing) cycles.
Manufacturing Knowledge: Deep understanding of harness manufacturing processes, including crimp validation (cross-sectioning), ultrasonic welding, and harness "formboard" assembly.
Environmental Protection: Experience selecting appropriate sleeving (braided, corrugated, heat-shrink) and sealing methods based on thermal requirements and exposure to the environment, fluids, and debris.
Testing & Validation: Ability to perform continuity testing, insulation resistance testing (Hi-Pot), and TDR (Time-Domain Reflectometry) for high-speed data line validation.
