Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM**Subject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSHouston Public Works is seeking candidates who can:
- Supervise electrical maintenance of water treatment plants and facilities.
- Plan, schedule, supervise, coordinate, review and monitor work assignments according to required plans andspecifications.
- Advise and interpret complex plans and specifications.
- Prepare and update repair and maintenance records on equipment to adhere to safety guidelines.
- Administer departmental policies and procedures related to operational and personnel activities.
- Coordinate site specific maintenance activities with outside contractors, City departments, etc.
- Prepare periodic budget estimates and operational reports as required and/or requested.
- Ensure preventative/corrective maintenance tasks are carried out in timely and efficient manner.
- Respond to emergency calls for electrical issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONSThis position may involve considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on an occasional basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier 1 Level. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSRequires a high school degree or a GED certificate. Requires successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training or the equivalent as recognized by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSSix (6) years of journey-level experience in the area of work to be performed, either as an inside electrician or outside lineman, are required.
Substitution: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTSA valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License is required.
Must have a valid Texas driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
PREFERENCESPreference will be given to applicants with experience in maintaining medium/low voltage systems and knowledge of electrical controls.
Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in obtaining budgetary quotes, supervision of electrical personnel, and scheduling vendor activities.
