DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

The ideal candidate will be dedicated to electrical power system engineering activities to effectively support ArcelorMittal Calvert's business objectives. The Electrical Engineer - Power Systems (LV/MV/HV) will contribute to the reliability, safety, and performance of complex industrial electrical systems.

THE BASICS
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with 10 years of relevant industrial electrical power experience, or a Trade School Diploma with 20 years of relevant industrial electrical power experience, preferably in steelmaking, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or large-scale capital projects
  • Experience with LV, MV, and HV electrical power distribution systems
  • Experience working on large-scale industrial capital projects from concept through commissioning and startup
  • Strong understanding of substations, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relaying, MCCs, motor control, grounding, and power distribution
  • Experience coordinating engineering, construction, maintenance, operations, OEMs, utilities, and contractors
  • Experience with electrical system design, equipment specifications, technical evaluations, installation, testing, and commissioning
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, and engineering drawings


THE EXTRAS

  • Experience developing electrical equipment specifications, technical scopes, data sheets, and procurement packages
  • Experience evaluating OEM technical proposals and conducting technical bid evaluations
  • Experience leading or participating in FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, and performance testing
  • Experience with electrical system studies and software such as ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or equivalent
  • Experience with industrial grounding and lightning protection systems
  • SAP experience preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
  • Lead electrical power engineering activities for the Complex II EAF/Caster Project, from concept and FEED through detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and final acceptance
  • Provide electrical engineering leadership for LV, MV, and HV power systems supporting EAF, Caster, FES, Water Systems, and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Develop and review electrical power distribution architectures, single-line diagrams, load lists, equipment layouts, and electrical design packages
  • Establish electrical design criteria, equipment specifications, technical requirements, and performance requirements for power systems
  • Ensure new electrical systems are properly integrated with existing plant power infrastructure without adversely affecting system reliability, production, or equipment operation
  • Perform and/or review load flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protective coordination, motor starting, grounding, and power quality studies
  • Lead or support technical evaluation and selection of substations, transformers, switchgear, breakers, MCCs, bus systems, power cables, protective relays, and other electrical equipment
  • Review OEM technical proposals, drawings, calculations, equipment designs, protection philosophies, and performance commitments
  • Ensure OEM equipment and electrical systems meet company process conditions, production requirements, capacity, reliability, safety, and future expansion requirements
  • Coordinate electrical power requirements with mechanical, piping, automation, instrumentation, civil, structural, process, and other project disciplines
  • Support design and engineering of HV/MV substations, transformers, switchgear, distribution systems, and LV systems
  • Provide technical support for EAF power systems, including furnace transformers, high-current connections, power distribution, protection, and associated auxiliary systems
  • Support power systems for caster equipment, FES, water systems, pumps, fans, hydraulic systems, material handling, and other auxiliary equipment
  • Develop and review electrical equipment specifications, technical scopes, data sheets, procurement packages, and installation requirements
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, maintainability reviews, electrical safety reviews, and risk assessments
  • Lead or support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for major electrical equipment
  • Provide field technical support during electrical construction, equipment installation, cable installation, terminations, testing, and commissioning
  • Lead and coordinate electrical pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization, startup, and system turnover activities
  • Coordinate OEMs, contractors, testing agencies, engineering teams, operations, and maintenance during commissioning and startup
  • Review and approve electrical testing procedures and results for transformers, switchgear, breakers, protective relays, cables, grounding systems, and other power equipment
  • Support relay protection settings, testing, commissioning, and coordination with existing plant protection systems
  • Identify electrical design, installation, testing, and commissioning issues and develop practical solutions with engineering, OEMs, contractors, and operations
  • Maintain accurate electrical engineering documentation, including one-lines, schematics, studies, equipment data, test reports, commissioning records, and as-built documentation
  • Support electrical reliability, power quality, energy efficiency, equipment availability, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide technical training and knowledge transfer to maintenance and operations personnel
  • Support development of project schedules, work plans, estimates, technical scopes, and execution strategies
  • Provide regular technical and project updates to management and internal stakeholders
  • Participate in project walkdowns, inspections, punch-list activities, equipment acceptance, and final system turnover
  • Ensure electrical systems are designed, installed, tested, energized, and commissioned in accordance with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, applicable codes, standards, and company requirements
  • Support electrical safety programs, incident investigations, and corrective actions as required

  • Monday through Friday, with extended hours as required during periods of peak workload, construction, commissioning, and startup
