Regional EHS Manager - North, is a strategic and operational leader for Environmental, Health, & Safety programs across Neogen's Northern US & Canada locations. The role is located onsite at Neogen's operations near Madison, WI and will support multiple locations across the northern U.S and Canada including: Manufacturing, Distribution, R&D, and Laboratory operations.
Reporting to the Senior Director - Global EHS & Security Operations, this role is responsible for driving Safety AND Environmental programs, while supporting security and facility mgt. needs. Regional EHS Manager will serve as the subject-matter technical expert for all EHS compliance and program execution needs.
As the Regional EHS Manager, your responsibilities and deliverables will include:- Own and Implement EHS programs to ensure injury prevention and compliance at chemical, biotech, and R&D facilities.
- Develop and execute strategic EHS, Security, and Risk Control plans.
- Own and provide oversight and governance of multi-site level EHS programs, including Safety and environmental domains such as: EPCRA reporting, PSM compliance, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous and regulated waste, and related compliance.
- Along with providing site EHS & Security support, serve as the main facilities POC for the Oakdale R&D location. This unique responsibility will facilitate and oversee the site maintenance actions and support the corp. Facilities team during capital projects planning.
- Act as a partner to the EHS Governance function, integrating EHS considerations into lab and R&D operations, manufacturing processes, and high-risk activities.
- Serve as a trusted EHS advisor to site senior leadership and cross-functional teams, providing guidance on complex risk management and regulatory compliance matters.
- Lead the development and deployment of innovative EHS solutions, leveraging data analytics to identify trends and drive data-informed decision-making.
- Oversee the management of change (MOC) process for operational and infrastructure changes, ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Develop and maintain site-specific environmental management plans, ensuring timely reporting, permitting, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Lead investigations into complex environmental and safety incidents, utilizing root cause analysis methodologies to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Implement global EHS standards ensuring compliance excellence across U.S. operations.
- Identify Industrial Hygiene needs and solutions while working with EHS Governance teams.
- Drive Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for assigned programs.
Core EHS Program Responsibilities:- Exposure Control: Launch and assist in deploying the Neogen Global Exposure Control programs, including, but not limited to, IH sampling, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, bloodborne pathogens, radiation, and freezer/cryogen programs.
- Ergonomics: Stand up the ergonomics programs. Align with key stakeholders throughout the organization (Engineering, Maintenance & Operations) to integrate design criteria that mitigates musculoskeletal disorder risks. Establish self-audit mechanisms that ensure ongoing risk prevention while driving operational efficiencies.
- Management Of Change: Launch management of change programs that is integrated with key stakeholder systems. Establish and drive EHS engagement in all process or system changes to mitigate employee risk.
- Innovative EHS Processes: Create innovation solutions and EHS processes, tools, and training programs, that result in a standardized approach to EHS across diverse manufacturing and non-manufacturing environments.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a key liaison between internal and external stakeholders - including planning, procurement, engineering, facilities, and legal - to integrate EHS requirements into company processes, driving alignment and compliance.
- Risk Management Enhancements: Implement robust risk management strategies for Neogen equipment and automation processes, with a focus on injury prevention and compliance.
- Process Optimization: Streamline EHS processes through the introduction of innovative tools and methodologies.
- Best Practices: Foster a culture of continuous improvement by sharing best practices and lessons learned to enhanced EHS performance and operational consistency.
QualificationsYou must possess the following minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
Minimum Qualifications- The candidate must possess a min. of a bachelor's degree in an EHS-related field or a bachelor's degree in a science or engineering-related field. EHS certifications (CSP, CHMM, CIH) a plus.
- Min. 7+ years of combined direct EHS experience in Biotech, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, related scientific field or heavy industry.
- In-depth experience in machine safety, hazardous waste, chemical mgt, combustible dust.
- Must have In-depth application experience in the following: Env. Compliance, PSM, RCRA LQG Hazardous Waste, Bio - Medical Waste disposal, SPCCP, SWPPP, Flammable liquid storage, and SARA/EPCRA Tier II and TRI Reporting.
- Proven EHS technical implementation expertise in NFPA Codes for Flammable liquids and Flammable gases, and Life Safety Codes within manufacturing operations.
- Ability to travel up to 50% (or as needed)
- Ability and willingness to manage facility mgt. actions and projects at an R&D site.
- NOTE: This is an onsite/very hands-on role; Remote or WFH does not apply for this role.
Preferred Qualifications- Site security and facilities mgt. experience
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification, with practical application of program management methodology including Lean Six Sigma / Kaizen / 5S.
- Proficient in ergonomic risk assessment methodologies (e.g., REBA, RULA)
- Working knowledge of: Combustible Dusts, Biologic agents, and sterilization techniques.
- Experience with performance metrics, process improvements, and Lean techniques.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing SOPs, management plans, and training programs.
- Ability to leverage data and analytics to inform decision-making and program improvements
- Expert incident investigation skills
