Position Overview

The Siemens EDA team is seeking an EDA Portfolio Strategist to support a range of cross-group strategic activities, projects and programs This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced EDA industry professional with a passion for bringing new ideas and operational processes to life. This individual will collaborate with product development groups to align planning processes, contribute to the creation of industry strategies, assist in the evolution of the AI and cloud strategy and support the development of new business models. The role is central to shaping the direction of the business through cross-functional alignment of plans and strategies that thoughtfully consider macro trends, competitive landscapes and implementation considerations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following activities:

  • Collaboratively refining and executing an EDA portfolio-wide product lifecycle process that provides consistency in milestones, terminology and appropriately aligns with other Siemens software group practices
  • Leading strategic analysis and proposal definition for select topics of relevance through teams comprised of multi-function stakeholders
  • Contributing to the creation and maintenance of strategic maps for Siemens EDA that provide a foundational perspective on the state of the overall industry landscape at any point in time
  • Serving as a thought leader across the sales and product division on trends and issues across the technology spectrum in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud Services, Data Analytics, Chiplets, Photonics, Quantum Computing 5G+, and Edge IoT
  • Identifying and articulating opportunities that may have significant impact for IC and systems companies as they seek to address their EDA and end-market needs
  • Organizing the implementation of superior business strategies, guidelines, and principles
  • Designing and coordinating strategic plans, programs, and measures on business or regional level in support of the executive team
  • Leading or guiding cross-functional teams comprised of both technical and business stakeholders to build aligned customer-focused strategies with financially compelling results - then analyzing complex ideas and synthesizing them into actionable next steps
  • Acting as a trusted advisor for executive management to identify and follow up on future business opportunities, ensuring continuous analyses and design of strategic positioning of the business overall and advising on long-term development of the product, service or solutions portfolio
  • Facilitating alignment with corporate initiatives across all EDA portfolio units while ensuring efficient and streamlined business processes, such as investment planning, new product introduction, release management, data use rights, and SW licensing
  • Monitoring EDA portfolio-wide global trends such as BIS export compliance and EU cyber resiliency regulations, and advising EDA portfolio leaders on optimal strategic direction
  • Supporting early new product introduction, go to market planning, and eventual EDA portfolio integration of external business opportunities including Siemens DISW product lines and third-party reseller agreements

Job Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge and experience in the Electric Design Automation and Integrated Circuit industries, including the challenges and landscape around major EDA tool categories and competitors
  • Experience bringing new products or technologies to market in the EDA space
  • Ability to delve into new technology areas and learn the necessary information to sufficiently guide strategy development
  • Deep understanding of the current and future role of AI/ML and cloud in the EDA and IC industries, including business implications
  • Familiarity with multiple technology trends impacting IC companies, such as Chiplets,/ 3D IC, photonics, IP, IoT, etc. and business trends impacting IC companies, such as industry consolidation, startup activity, government semiconductor investment, cost of design, etc.
  • Familiarity with phase-gate project and process management methodology
  • Proven ability to work well in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team while engaging with partners and customers in an effective and professional manner
  • Demonstrated success in creating and executing strategies at either product or organizational levels
  • Working knowledge of business and financial processes that impact strategy, such as financial reporting, ROI analysis, M&A factors, and P&L basics
  • Excellent communication skills, including PowerPoint presentation creation
  • BSEE or BSCS is required; MSEE of MBA preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in the IC industry and/or EDA
  • Preferred: Experience taking concepts from the strategy stage through successful implementation in an EDA or IC/System context

Preferred: Experience in corporate strategic planning and/or financial planning

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Role will be hybrid home-office with preference for Bay Area as office location
  • Will support discussions in various time zones, so virtual meetings outside of home time zone will be necessary.
  • Occasional travel required to support certain meetings or customer discussions: ~10%

The pay range for this position is $147,500 - $265,600 annually with a target incentive of 10-15% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location
