VPU Context:
The Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC) is the World Bank's central reservoir of fresh insights into the most pressing challenges of development. It is led by the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank Group, who advises the President and senior managers, serves as the community leader for the WBG's economists, and helps to keep the institution in the forefront of thinking about development policy. DEC constitutes one of the world's largest teams of economists focused on policy solutions for developing economies.
Unit Context:
The mission of the Office of the World Bank Chief Statistician and Director of the Development Data Group (DECDG) is to put data to work for development. DECDG provides technical expertise and support both internally and to countries with a range of data and statistics priorities, including development indicators, methods, standards, and tools for data work; support for data governance; and promotion of better use and management of development data. DECDG prizes innovation and partnership, validating and incorporating new technologies, working closely with partners, and serving as an interface to the global development data community.
This position is in the Development Data Governance Unit (DECGT) of the Development Economics Data Group (DECDG). Building the skills to produce, manage, and use data well is central to the World Bank Group's ambition to be a "data bank". DECGT delivers the Data Academy, the World Bank Group's platform for applied learning in data and statistics, which offers practical learning across the data lifecycle, from data production and analysis to visualization, management, governance, and AI.
The Data Academy serves three audiences: World Bank Group staff, through live training series, workshops, and brown bag lunches on topics such as data quality and governance, AI foundations, and reproducible data workflows; national statistical systems and development partners, through partner-led courses, workshops, and the Let's Talk Data series; and learners worldwide, through open, self-paced eLearning courses that have recorded more than 120,000 enrollments. The Data Academy works closely with the Data Talent Board, the WBG Data Communities of Practice, ITS, and a growing network of internal and external partners. To advance this work, DECDG seeks a E T Consultant - Program Officer to support the administration and delivery of Data Academy programs, including its data literacy offerings, and to strengthen the editorial quality, outreach, and partnerships that extend the Data Academy's reach and impact.
Duties and Accountabilities:
DECDG is seeking a dynamic, organized individual to support the Data Academy's growth and operation. The ideal candidate will combine strong learning program management skills with editorial and data communications expertise, and the ability to work with technical experts, partners, and diverse audiences to design and deliver high-quality learning. Joining the team as an Extended Term Consultant (ETC), they will support the end-to-end administration of the Data Academy portfolio, integrate data literacy activities within it, shape the content and communication of Data Academy programs, and help build the partnerships that sustain them.
