Director of Engineering - Generator Systems

Full-Time • Exempt • Fullerton, CA • Monday-Friday (Hybrid)

Multiquip is seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Engineering to lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of our generator product line. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for driving innovation, aligning engineering initiatives with business objectives, and building a high-performing engineering organization.

What You'll Do
Strategic Leadership & Technical Vision
  • Develop and execute the long-term engineering strategy, including product roadmap, innovation initiatives, and alignment with business goals such as growth, cost optimization, and reliability improvements
  • Provide executive-level technical leadership for new product development, enhancements, and customer-specific modifications
  • Identify and implement new technologies, materials, and processes to improve product performance and competitiveness
  • Establish engineering standards, design guidelines, and best practices across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines
Product Design & Development
  • Lead the full product lifecycle-from concept through design, prototyping, testing, and production release
  • Ensure all products are optimized for performance, manufacturability (DFM), cost, serviceability, and quality
  • Oversee customer-driven modifications with strong configuration control and documentation practices
  • Direct design reviews, risk assessments, and validation testing
Team Leadership & Development
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing engineering team, including managers and individual contributors
  • Drive execution using structured planning and tracking tools (e.g., Jira)
  • Balance priorities across new development, sustaining engineering, and customer requests
  • Foster a collaborative culture focused on accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
Manufacturing & Operations Support
  • Partner with production teams to support New Product Introduction (NPI) and resolve manufacturing challenges
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and operations
  • Travel approximately 15-25% to support manufacturing sites and cross-functional collaboration
Compliance, Quality & Regulatory
  • Ensure all products meet applicable standards and regulations (EPA, UL, ISO, NEC, CE, etc.)
  • Maintain robust documentation, configuration management, and traceability
Project & Operational Management
  • Oversee project timelines, deliverables, and engineering performance metrics
  • Manage department budget, headcount planning, and resource allocation
  • Track and improve key KPIs such as on-time delivery, quality, and engineering throughput
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Sales, Product Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Service, and Finance
  • Serve as a key engineering representative in leadership discussions and company initiatives
  • Collaborate with other engineering leaders to drive standardization and shared best practices
What You Bring
Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field required (Master's or MBA preferred)
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including 5-7 years in senior leadership
  • Background in generator systems, power generation, or related industries (industrial equipment, energy systems, heavy equipment)
Technical Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering principles
  • Experience with full product lifecycle, including design, validation, NPI, and production support
  • Deep understanding of DFM, DFA, and cost optimization strategies
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards such as EPA, UL, ISO, NEC, and CE
Leadership & Business Skills
  • Proven ability to build, lead, and scale high-performing engineering teams
  • Strong project and program management skills, with experience using tools like Jira
  • Financial acumen, including budget management and resource planning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across all levels

Compensation & Benefits
  • $140,000.00-$170,000.00/yr
