Full Job Description

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced, highly hands-on Director of Data & Analytics to join our Data Science & Analytics team. Reporting into our Vice President of Data Science & Analytics, this is a high-impact leadership role responsible for turning data into actionable insights that shape how The New York Post operates, grows its audience, and drives commercial performance.

The ideal candidate is both a strategic leader and a hands-on analytics expert; someone who can set direction and lead a team, but is equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves, digging into data, building analyses, and delivering answers themselves. You will work closely with leaders and stakeholders across Editorial, Commercial, Product, Marketing, Affiliate/E-Commerce, Data Engineering, and Product, helping teams understand what the data is telling us and, more importantly, what they should do with it.

This is an opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-moving media environment where priorities evolve quickly, questions don't always come neatly defined, and the ability to deliver high-quality insights on a tight timeline is critical. Working closely with our newsroom means being comfortable with urgency and quick turnaround while maintaining a high standard of analytical rigor.

The right person will be energized by the pace and variety of The New York Post, is someone who doesn't need every question defined for them, and is comfortable navigating ambiguity while seeing changing priorities as an opportunity to solve new problems. Most importantly, you should be passionate about using data not simply to report what happened, but to help people across the organization make smarter, faster, more informed decisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing analytics team, managing a team of 3+ Data/Business Analysts and providing mentorship, prioritization, coaching, and professional development.
  • Establish the strategy, priorities, and operating model for analytics across the organization, ensuring the team is focused on the highest-impact business and editorial opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted data and analytics partner to senior stakeholders across Editorial and Commercial, translating business questions into clear analytical approaches and actionable recommendations.
  • Partner closely with newsroom leadership and editorial teams to develop insights that support audience growth, content strategy, engagement, performance, and decision-making.
  • Work with Commercial, Advertising, Marketing, and other business teams to analyze campaign performance, audience behavior, revenue opportunities, and media performance.
  • Act as a hands-on analytics leader who can independently investigate complex questions, work directly with large datasets, build analyses, and deliver insights — not simply manage work from above.
  • Develop and maintain automated reporting, dashboards, and data products that give stakeholders timely, reliable visibility into the metrics that matter most.
  • Champion a data-driven culture by helping stakeholders understand not only what is happening in the business, but why it is happening and what actions the data supports.
  • Lead the development and integration of advanced analytics models and methodologies to improve media performance, audience engagement, campaign effectiveness, and business outcomes.
  • Analyze campaign and media performance across platforms and channels, identifying trends, opportunities, and areas for optimization.
  • Partner with Data Engineering and Data Science teams to integrate, structure, and leverage data from marketing clean rooms and other internal and external data sources.
  • Collaborate with Product, Technology, and Data teams to improve data accessibility, quality, and usability and to identify opportunities to build scalable data products.
  • Partner with senior management to develop and refine business and media strategies based on data-driven insights.
  • Help establish analytics best practices, standards, and methodologies across the organization, including approaches to measurement, experimentation, attribution, and media effectiveness.
  • Support the development of sports analytics capabilities and identify new opportunities to leverage data across The Post's sports business and editorial operations.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, compelling narratives that can be understood and acted upon by both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Operate effectively in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment, where priorities can shift quickly and new analytical questions emerge regularly.
  • Balance longer-term strategic initiatives with urgent, high-priority requests, maintaining quality and accuracy while delivering against tight newsroom and business timelines.
  • Identify opportunities to proactively use data to answer questions stakeholders may not yet be asking and surface insights that can create meaningful business impact.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field preferred.
  • 6–10+ years of progressive experience in data, analytics, business intelligence, or a related discipline, preferably within media, entertainment, sports, digital publishing, advertising, or another fast-paced consumer business.
  • Previous experience leading and developing a team of analysts, with the ability to balance people leadership with hands-on individual contribution; You should be equally comfortable presenting insights to senior leadership, partnering with an editor on an urgent newsroom question, coaching an analyst through a complex project, or opening up SQL and figuring out the answer yourself.
  • Strong track record of partnering with senior stakeholders across multiple functions and using data to influence business decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting both commercial/business and editorial or content-oriented stakeholders is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience with BI and visualization tools such as Looker, Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience working with Python and large, complex datasets.
  • Proven ability to independently scope, execute, and communicate complex analytical projects from start to finish.
  • Experience driving data and analytics initiatives within digital media, direct-to-consumer, marketing, advertising, sports, or other high-volume digital environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern cloud data architectures, including data warehouses, data marts, lakehouse environments, multi-cloud architectures, real-time data, and data productization.
  • Expertise in media measurement methodologies and technologies, including experimentation, attribution, and Media Mix Modeling (MMM).
  • Strong understanding of campaign analytics, audience measurement, data extraction, media optimization, and performance reporting.
  • Experience applying advanced analytical and research techniques to solve complex business problems.
  • Ability to translate complex technical or analytical concepts into clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Advanced understanding of media, audience, engagement, and commercial metrics and their application to business decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify meaningful patterns and insights within large datasets and communicate those findings effectively.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative, fast-moving, and sometimes ambiguous environment where priorities and business needs can change quickly.
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and deliver against tight deadlines.
  • A roll-up-your-sleeves mentality — you are comfortable getting into the data yourself, challenging assumptions, troubleshooting an analysis, and doing the work when needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with everyone from data scientists and engineers to newsroom editors and commercial executives.

Note: This position will be expected to adhere to our hybrid work model, requiring three (3) days per week in the office. This schedule is subject to change based on business needs.
