Purpose

Director, GBM BRM, contributes to the overall success of the front office / first line of defense 1B function within the United States by leading a cross-product BRM team responsible for providing supervisory support to public and private-side businesses within GBM.

What You'll Do
• Lead a product-aligned BRM team supporting public- and private-side GBM businesses, including Equities (Cash and Derivatives), Fixed Income (Rates and Credit), Foreign Exchange (inc. Derivatives), Commodity Derivatives, Prime / CMF, DCM (inc. MCM / Structured Credit / Securitization), and CIB (inc. ECM / LevFin).
• Promote a strong risk and compliance culture across the team and partner with 1A stakeholders to increase awareness of non-financial risks, controls, and supervisory expectations.
• Oversee delegated supervisory activities under the Supervision Framework and Written Supervisory Procedures (WSPs), including updating procedures, reporting findings, and supporting appropriate 1A oversight.
• Develop and maintain procedures and guidance to operationalize compliance policies, internal processes, and controls for new or changing business activities.
• Oversee key risk assessments, including New Initiative Risk Assessments (NIRAs), Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), and Control Risk Control Assessments (CRCAs).
• Identify, escalate, manage, and resolve Operational Risk Events, Self-Identified Issues, and related remediation plans, including root cause analysis, ownership, milestones, and closure validation.
• Serve as the primary coordination point for audits, compliance testing, first line testing, third-party reviews, and other ad hoc reviews of covered businesses.
• Partner with business, Legal, Compliance, and other control functions to assess regulatory changes, respond to findings, define action plans, and drive timely remediation.
• Support regulatory inquiries and examinations involving covered businesses, including engagements with the SEC, NFA, FINRA, NYSE, Federal Reserve, U.S. Treasury, and other regulators.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with senior management, executives, regulators, and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve issues and support sound risk outcomes.
• Conduct all activities in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, Code of Conduct, risk appetite, risk culture, and, where applicable, Global Sales Principles.

What You'll Bring
• University degree required; MBA, CFA, CIA, or equivalent designation in Business, Economics, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of Banking and Capital Markets experience, with deep knowledge of public- and private-side businesses and operational risk management.
• Expertise in key operational risk processes, including new initiatives, CRCAs, RCSAs, Operational Risk Events, and issue management, with the ability to apply industry practices within Scotiabank.
• Proven ability to lead large, diverse teams through organizational change, business growth, and complex stakeholder environments.
• Strong executive presence, sound judgment, and credibility with senior management, Board members, C-Suite executives, regulators, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence regulatory engagements and drive strategic alignment across stakeholders.
