Full Job Description
Summary Description: Reporting to the Department Manager, the Controls Technician III ensures the reliability and optimal performance of plant equipment. This role is responsible for equipment, process, and system maintenance; troubleshooting and repairs; and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. The technician will apply advanced technical training to support uptime, safety, and operational performance across the facility.

Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday with possible after hours and weekends

Location: Plant City, FL

Rate: $41.40/hr. + $.50 shift differential

What you'll be doing:
  • Work safely and comply with all TOPPAN safety rules and procedures.
  • Pass required electrical skills and safety assessments to qualify as a Category 2 electrical worker.
  • Follow Highland Packaging Electrical Safety Work Practices and assist with training maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain accurate, current, and secure documentation of electronic files and software.
  • Evaluate applications for electronic systems and software; implement approved designs, modifications, and updates to wiring or equipment devices.
  • Participate in process improvement efforts, new installations, and electronic/PLC/mechanical projects.
  • Work on electrical systems up to 480 volts.
  • Serve as a maintenance technician as needed, performing PMs, project work, and mechanical or building repairs.
  • Oversee and support maintenance tasks to ensure effective completion; mentor and train Maintenance and Label/Printing team members.
  • Remain available as a 24/7 resource for technical consultation and emergency call-ins.
  • Maintain productive vendor relationships and communication.
  • Partner with the Maintenance Planner on electronic spare-parts inventory management.
  • Maintain electrical parts storage areas, ensuring organization, accuracy, and housekeeping.

  • 3-5 years of industrial experience with a strong focus on electrical and electronic systems (PLC, VFD, contactors, PCs, etc.).
  • Strong electrical and electronics proficiency, including controls applications.
  • Competency with software applications and device configuration (VFDs, controllers, etc.).
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with computers, word processing, and CMMS applications.
  • Strong general math skills.
  • Skilled use of electronic measuring and diagnostic tools (multimeter, circuit locator, thermal imaging).
  • Effective verbal, written, and phone communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain vendor relationships.
  • Commitment to maintaining and expanding technical knowledge through training and continued education.
