Job Description & SummaryA career within PwC Private's Cross Border Tax practice offers the opportunity to advise some of Canada's most iconic families and ultra-high-net-worth individuals who operate on both sides of the Canadian and U.S. border. Our team helps clients navigate Canadian and U.S. tax considerations across personal, trust, and corporate structures, designing and implementing tailored, multi-jurisdictional strategies that reflect the unique circumstances of U.S. citizens residing in Canada, Canadians with U.S. assets or family ties in the U.S., and intergenerational families with members on both sides of the border.
You'll work alongside a dedicated team of cross-border tax specialists on engagements that span cross-border income and estate tax planning, helping families preserve, grow, and transition wealth across generations and jurisdictions. This includes but is not limited to U.S./Canadian trust structuring, CFC and PFIC analysis, foreign information reporting, and pre-immigration and pre-departure planning.
The Opportunity As a Cross Border Tax Manager, you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex tax issues, deliver high-quality client service, and drive operational efficiency. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Navigate the complexities of cross-border tax engagements involving multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Contribute technical knowledge of Canadian and U.S. personal, trust, and estate tax to every engagement.
- Assist on cross-border structuring engagements, including the design and implementation of entity structures, including trusts, spanning Canada and the U.S., with attention to treaty application, entity classification, and downstream reporting impact.
- Assist with technical U.S. tax analysis of foreign trusts and corporations held by U.S. persons, including their classification and reporting obligations.
- Manage the efficient delivery of cross-border tax consulting and compliance engagements to our clients.
- Uphold the firm's code of ethics and business conduct.
What you'll bring - Canadian CPA Designation in good standing. Holding a U.S. CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation is considered an asset. Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Course or a Master's in Tax is also considered an asset.
- Demonstrate the ability to build client relationships and an expertise in Canada-U.S. cross-border tax for high-net-worth individuals, families, and trusts. This includes being able to effectively communicate complex tax issues to clients on a day-to-day basis.
- Between 3-5 years of experience as a manager in public accounting is an asset, understanding engagement cadence, client dynamics, and how to elevate service.
- Thrive under pressure by prioritizing effectively, managing multiple assignments, and staying organized without sacrificing quality.
- Show an entrepreneurial and tech-curious mindset, committed to upskilling a digital world and open to new tools and ways of working.
- Apply exceptional problem-solving and communication skills to deliver clarity and impact on conversations, writing, and presentations.
