  • Coordinate required tax and regulatory filings.
  • Present financial results, audit matters, and recommendations to senior leadership and Board committees.

About This Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead the College's accounting and financial operations. This is a hands-on leadership role for a financial professional with strong higher education accounting experience and demonstrated expertise with Ellucian Banner.

What You Will Work On

  • Lead and oversee day-to-day accounting and Business Office operations.
  • Evaluate and improve processes for accounts payable, procurement, student receivables, and cash receipts.
  • Assess team structure, clarify responsibilities, and develop training and cross-training programs.
  • Establish and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in accordance with GAAP.
  • Coordinate the annual external audit and prepare financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, forecasts, and financial analyses.
  • Monitor cash flow, banking activities, debt, lines of credit, and bond covenant compliance.
  • Oversee endowment accounting, pledge receivables, donor reporting, and grant/contract accounting.
  • Coordinate required tax and regulatory filings, including Forms 990, 990-T, W-3, 1098, and 1099s.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend strategies to protect institutional assets.
  • Present financial results, audit matters, and recommendations to senior leadership and Board committees.
  • Partner with the CFO/VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and strategic initiatives.
  • Utilize Ellucian Banner to support accounting operations, financial reporting, data analysis, and process improvement.


What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Ellucian Banner is required.
  • Higher education accounting experience is required or strongly preferred.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience required.
  • Proven experience leading and developing accounting or finance teams.
  • Experience with process improvement, organizational restructuring, or departmental transformation.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Working knowledge of FERPA.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • CPA or MBA preferred.
