Job Summary:
Newmark's Project & Cost Management group needs a Consultant to join the Cost Planning team in the Vancouver, BC office. The Director, Cost Planning will oversee your work with the team on various asset types and accounts. You will join a team of consultants to deliver cost consulting services efficiently and drive projects to completion. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-profile, complex construction and development projects, ranging from mixed-use, commercial, offices, institutions, healthcare, government buildings and residential developments in BC and beyond. You will work with clients, project managers, architects, engineers, owners and others to make sure project goals are met, while developing your skills in cost consulting.
Responsibilities
• Conduct quantity surveying and cost planning activities on construction projects in British Columbia, with opportunities to support assignment across other Canadian and US markets
• Review and interpret design documents to measure and quantify building elements, cost analysis, and apply appropriate pricing. Prepare Class D to Class A estimates (conceptual to detailed estimate stages), tender reviews, and change order reviews assessments and other commercial deliverables, whilst meeting project deadlines.
• Utilize benchmarking data to analyze project estimates, including unit rates and costs for assets, facilities, and structures.
• Assess and apply appropriate level of detail to estimates given information provided.
• Assist with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of cost and schedule data.
• Regularly communicate with clients and cost team leaders to resolve issues quickly.
• Manage client relationships to increase income through repeat business and referrals.
• Manage and contribute to project meetings.
Qualifications
• Degree or Diploma in Diploma in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Sciences, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or similar subjects.
• Have, or be working towards, CIQS Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS), Construction Estimator Certified (CEC), or RICS Member (MRICS).
• 3+ years expertise in Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Construction, Project Management, or Construction Consulting.
• Knowledge of CIQS standard methods of measurement and estimating (elemental and MasterFormat/trade format), BC Building Codes, and CCDC standard contract conditions.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite, AI, Bluebeam, CostX, or other computer-based measurement and estimating software.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively on many tasks simultaneously.
• Strong, transparent communication abilities, including report writing and presentation of complex concepts for key audiences.
• Client focused approach with a proactive approach to delivering quality outcomes and building strong relationships.
