As an SDI and Surety Advisor within Pomerleau's Surety and Financial Prequalification team, you will play a key role in the evolution of our Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) program, a strategic initiative that directly contributes to the company's risk management strategy and the growth of our future insurance captive.
You will also contribute to the administration and optimization of Pomerleau's surety programs and serve as the organization's surety representative on major projects.
Reporting to the Director, Surety and Financial Prequalification, you will work on complex, high-impact matters and act as an influential advisor to project teams, internal stakeholders, and partners across the SDI and surety markets. Working on construction projects ranging from $1.5 million to over $1 billion, you will have the opportunity to influence strategic business decisions across the organization.
What you will do
• Lead strategic initiatives related to the SDI program and support its continued expansion across Canada, including analyzing and approving subcontractor prequalification submissions.
• Lead strategic surety initiatives and represent Pomerleau on major projects requiring complex bonding solutions.
• Contribute to the evolution of financial prequalification practices to support the performance and growth of the SDI program.
• Act as a trusted advisor to project teams on risk transfer and risk management strategies.
• Support the management and continuous improvement of Pomerleau's surety program.
• Review and analyze contracts, insurance policies, and surety bond requirements.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative strategies related to Pomerleau's insurance captive and broader risk management initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners, including brokers, sureties, insurers, and industry peers.
• Oversee the effective management of surety and SDI claims.
• Contribute to the development of internal capabilities by delivering training and educational sessions tailored to the needs of project and business teams.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues across the team to ensure a consistent, efficient, and aligned approach to service delivery and risk management.
This role could be for you if you have
• A degree in Finance or a related field.
• 8 to 12 years of relevant experience in surety, insurance or risk management
• Experience working on complex, high-impact files and projects
• Strong financial acumen and business judgment
• The ability to influence and engage with senior-level stakeholders
• A strategic, pragmatic, and solution-oriented mindset
