About the RoleAt Blue Origin, we believe in the power of space to improve life on Earth. As a
COMSEC Systems Engineer, you will support the security and integrity of our communications systems. You will work alongside Cybersecurity, Software, and Hardware Engineers to help develop, implement, and maintain COMSEC solutions that support our mission.
What You'll Do- Support the design, development, and integration of COMSEC systems and solutions across Blue National Security programs
- Collaborate with Cybersecurity, Software, and Hardware Engineers to ensure secure communications architectures meet mission requirements
- Assist in the development and maintenance of COMSEC documentation, including policies, procedures, and system specifications
- Develop and maintain Verification and Validation (V&V) plans, requirements verification traceability matrices (RVTM), and test plans; coordinate verification activities across hardware, software, and integration test teams
- Support assessments of communications security risks and contribute to mitigation strategies
- Assist with lifecycle management of COMSEC equipment and keying material
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and government directives related to COMSEC
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
- 3+ years of relevant experience in COMSEC or communications security engineering
- Foundational understanding of secure communications systems and integration
- Basic understanding of cryptographic principles and key management Familiarity with DoD COMSEC policies, NSA guidelines, and applicable regulations
- Familiarity with satellite avionics systems and their role in secure communications
- Familiarity with systems engineering principles, processes, and best practices
- Experience supporting requirements development, decomposition, and verification
- Ability to read and review electrical circuit schematics
- Ability to work collaboratively across engineering disciplines
- U.S. citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications - Active Top Secret security clearance strongly preferred
- Experience supporting space, defense, or aerospace programs
- Hands-on experience with satellite avionics integration and secure communications interfaces
- Experience with full systems engineering lifecycle, from concept development through integration, test, and operations
- Proficiency with systems engineering tools such as DOORS, Cameo, or similar requirements and modeling platforms
- Experience developing Verification and Validation (V&V) plans, test plans, and requirements traceability matrices
- Familiarity with interface control documents (ICDs) and system architecture development
- Exposure to cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, RMF)
- Familiarity with hardware and software security integration
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Security+, NSA/DoD COMSEC training, INCOSE CSEP)
Base Pay Range for:
CO applicants is $90,934.00 - $127,307.25

- Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
